Provide an amiable and respectful environment wherein the student is comfortable enough to openly raise doubts and seek follow-up without any fear of judgement/ignorance. I believe I have honed several skills that enhance the skillset of a tutor apart from subject knowledge like: 1. Confident and open communication 2. Strong interpersonal…

The most important thing for a tutor would be to help the student in any way possible, not only academically, but also, in life. Wherever possible, the tutor must help the students by sharing their own experiences and making sure that the student ends up a well disciplined and focused individual. One of my strengths as a tutor is I can explain a…

Important things a tutor can do for a student is to Share their knowledge and learning techniques with students so that they understand the concepts easily and quicker, which allows them to go a step ahead of their teacher and reach greater success. I am very hard working, patient and have a good hold on science and maths. I enjoy teaching and…

A tutor needs to analyse and understand the way a specific student learns, and cater for that. While a tutors ability to explain a problem is important, I believe the ability to explain a problem in a variety of different ways, while also showing a student that needing help with school is completely normal, is of upmost importance. I understand…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to provide the student with the tools to study and pass their assessments. The main goal for any tutor should be to help get the student to the point at which they no longer require a tutor. I am able to explain information in more than one way, and adapt my teaching methods to suit the…

Inside MarshallTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jasmine practised **Pythagoras' Theorem** and tackled unit conversions, building on her early work with right-angled triangles.

In Year 10, Ben revised the laws of indices and logarithms—including **graphing log functions as inverses**—before moving onto anti-differentiation basics like finding area under a curve using integration.

For VCE Methods, Year 12 student Zoe focused on calculus applications by solving **exam-style problems involving the chain rule, product rule, and finding equations of tangents to curves**.

Recent Challenges

In senior Maths, a Year 12 student often hesitated despite knowing the method, second-guessing herself during complex calculus and logarithm problems; as one tutor noted, "she usually knows exactly what to do, but worries about getting it right." This led to slower progress on integration tasks and less willingness to attempt challenging graphing questions.

Meanwhile, in Year 9, forgetting to bring essential materials like calculators or textbooks limited opportunities for direct feedback and hindered revision routines.

In English for Year 8, slow note-taking made it difficult to keep up with class content, leaving gaps when reviewing structure later at home.

Recent Achievements

One Marshall tutor noted a big shift for a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with trigonometric identities but now methodically eliminates incorrect answers in multiple-choice and confidently uses her calculator for complex questions.

Another high schooler has started identifying key elements independently in exam-style calculus problems, using past questions to guide her approach—something she avoided before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once second-guessed herself now volunteers to tackle harder fraction addition tasks first and completes them without waiting for hints. Last week, she finished an entire set of mixed-number problems on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Joshua feels comfortable with Linh so far, which is fantastic. His teaching skills are impressive! Very happy so far...

Eddy is really happy with Amy! I am so pleased to advise he has quickly built a rapport with her and has been really positive following their tutoring sessions.

My son and myself are greatly satisfied with the work that Jacqualine is putting forth to my son Tyler, he looks forward to every session. Jacqueline is professional, explains the following subjects until my son grasps on but also makes learning enjoyable. Not only myself by Tyler's teacher has seen an improvement with his confidence when completing a math's task at school. I believe we are in the process of having Tyler's teacher also liaise with Jacqueline to make this process a easier transition.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Grovedale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Grovedale Primary School.
