This is because a student should be confident about a subject or topic they struggled with after the tutor has helped them through it so that the student themselves are able to replicate the process and adapt to similar questions without any…

Besides helping the student with their academic workload, I believe that being someone the student can confide in is important for a maths tutor especially in a 1-1 setting. At the end of the day, a tutor who can listen to their student will make it easier for both parties to cooperate and make the student feel more at ease as their worries and…

I believe that while grades are important, they are not always completely comprehensive of a student's ability in a subject. If the student is able to walk away from a session being able to understand the concept and feel interested and confident with it, they not only will gain better results in exams but will have a better idea of the subject as…

I would consider the most important thing to be giving them the confidence in their own abilities. I think it can be very easily for kids to doubt themselves but having a maths tutor can give them nourishing support that will help them in the subject and hopefully extend outside of that as well. Communication and trust. Where one may be very knowledgable about the subject, if there is no communication, then there would be no point in tutoring if the student does not understand. Trust is also important because the student needs to trust the tutor and listen to them. In this vein, the tutor must also trust the student to focus and work…

Inside MaudslandTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Tiah worked on scatterplot graphs and finding lines of best fit for her maths assessment, as well as calculating correlation coefficients to interpret data relationships.

In Year 10, Daniel practiced applying the sine and cosine rules to solve worded trigonometry problems and reviewed linear equations, including how to find gradients from graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mani focused on solving quadratic equations by both factorising and using the quadratic formula, alongside revising internal diagonal lengths in 3D shapes.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student struggled to rearrange equations for "x" and often skipped reading questions carefully, leading to confusion—"does not backcheck at times so instilling this would help solve small errors."

In senior Chemistry, a Year 11 student felt uncertain about balancing equations and avoided writing out working when unsure, slowing her progress in revision before the final assessment.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student preparing an assignment did not take written notes on key graph observations during lessons; this made it harder for her to organize thoughts later while drafting her report.

Recent Achievements

One Maudsland tutor saw a Year 11 student start her maths assignment early, after last term's stress from leaving things late.

In a recent session with a Year 10 student, the tutor noticed she now draws diagrams for tricky problems without being prompted—something she used to avoid, which is really helping her accuracy.

A younger student in Year 6 who'd struggled with ions last time managed to clearly explain both cations and anions this week, showing she could apply what she'd learned by getting every example right on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Helensvale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Park Lake State School.
