Being friendly with a student helps them to approach the tutor. So,tutor helps them to learn in a fun way and clarifies their doubts .Tutor explains the solution instead of making them to copy it without knowing a thing. And that's the most important thing I think a tutor can do for a student. As a tutor, I consider my strengths are : -good…

I think that tutors with patience would be very important, as different students learn and understand things at different speeds. Patient tutors would also allow the students to feel more comfortable around their tutor allowing them to ask more questions, helping them master a particular subject. I think that being a recently graduated student…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help students believe in themselves. Once they feel confident, they’re more open to learning and less afraid of making mistakes, also the more you practice better the results are. I would say building students’ confidence. Students take maths as a phobia but it is not when you teach in a right way.…

I think the most important thing as a tutor is encouraging the student to want to learn, and to actively seek out explanations and ask questions. Even if a tutor can explain something very clearly, a student who does not want to learn will probaly not pay much attention, and the explanations will go over their head. By building a rapport with them…

To teach students the foundation for greater and more difficult topics they have to face in the future. As well as this, providing them with a person they feel comfortable asking what they might think a 'silly' question could be. I think I strive on being able to listen to student's opinions and make my method of teaching as clear as possible. I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make learning feel accessible and exciting, by creating a safe space where students feel comfortable to ask questions and not walk-away from tackling any challenges, but rather enjoy the learning experience. My biggest strength as a tutor is probably being able to build confidence in my…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide personalised support. Every student is unique, with individual learning styles, strengths, and challenges. A tutor should take time to understand the student's specific needs, tailor their approach to match the student's learning styles and provide targeted assistance…

The foremost thing a student asks is the necessity and further use of the topics which they are being taught This is where the tutor steps in. A practical approach always helps in the long run. Once the students are aware about the usage of the concepts, they are able to grasp them much faster. Subjects like Mathematics tend to bore the…

Inspire students to take charge of their academic future and career as well as strive to be the best version of themselves. I think that one of the important things a tutor can do for a student is to first understand how much the student already knows and where they are struggling. This helps the tutor guide the step-by step to improve their understanding of each topic. Another important thing is patience because learning takes time, and it a calm and encouraging…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make an overall postive impact. Just being an academic support for a student who is struggling can create impacts more meaningful than grades or results. A tutor can assist student in understanding the concepts more clearly and a tutor can mold a student's focus on the subject. A tutor is a constant reminder for a student to choose the right techniques for study. A tutor can explain the nuances of not just learning concepts but also to reciprocate them in the exam. My patience with students and my…

Inside Meadow HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Caleb worked on calculating the circumference and perimeter of circles and sectors, as well as solving worded questions involving manual decimal multiplication and division.

A Year 8 student focused on algebraic fractions, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing expressions with variables in the denominators.

For Year 7, work included understanding univariate data by finding mean, median, mode, range, and creating box-and-whisker plots using real data sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out full algebraic working, as noted: "Doing too much in his head, needs to practice writing working out down instead." This led to confusion and hidden calculation errors during polynomial division.

In Year 7, formatting issues surfaced—messy written solutions made it difficult to revise or spot errors when checking geometry work.

A senior student often neglected consistent backchecking, with a tutor observing, "Lots of errors that arose from superficial backchecking and being distracted towards the end of the lesson," causing small arithmetic slips to persist into final answers.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Meadow Heights recently noticed a big shift with Oscar, a Year 9 student who used to freeze when stuck on maths problems—he now tries different approaches without prompting and talks through his thinking out loud.

In another session, Sedra (Year 10) independently recognised when to use the addition rule for probability after struggling previously, confidently translating worded problems into Venn diagrams.

Meanwhile, a primary student was able to complete most of her homework worksheet and showed clear understanding of BIDMAS after needing help before; she finished by explaining each step aloud as she worked.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hume Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Meadow Heights Primary School.
