The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them and also to identify what the student really need improvement in and not overwhelming them. I'm flexible and I'm able to explain concepts clearly and in a simplified version. I'm quite positive and social, which means i can create a great a good relationship with another…

I believe tutors have the biggest impact on how a student approaches a subject. Speaking from personal experience, I don't think I would've liked studying the subjects I had in year 10, 11 and 12 if I hadn't had good teachers who knew how to make the subjects interesting to learn. A tutor is capable of making studying feel less burdensome and I…

The most crucial aspects a tutor can offer a student extend beyond mere academic guidance. A tutor's ability to create a personalized learning experience, adapting to the student's pace and style, stands out as paramount. Clear communication, patience, and empathy play pivotal roles in establishing a positive and supportive learning environment.…

Analyse the student and find out what they need the most, which area they need help and help them understand the concept, not just memorise them. I have excelled in maths and science in high school in Sydney and got band 6 in HSC Maths Extension 2 in year 11 as an accelerated student. I am now a third year medical student at Western Sydney…

Tutoring allows me to cultivate a compassionate and supportive learning environment where students feel valued, and motivated to succeed. Instead of teaching in a standard linear fashion, I prefer to let the pupil choose what they would like to practice and I will explain the concept while showing how the idea can be applied and adjusted. I also believe worded problems are a strong point that should be focused on as they test the knowledge of the student and how the student can…

I truly believe this will be actively listening and giving plenty of feedback. A good tutor will always make sure that the student really understands the concept and knows how to effectively teach the student in a way that works for them. Different students have different ways of learning and it’s the tutors responsibility to make sure that they…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence, create a safe space for learning, and help them develop independent problem-solving skills. A good tutor doesn’t just give answers, but guides students to understand how and why things work so they can apply that knowledge on their own. Supporting students…

Recognise HOW a student actually learns. One of the hardest things a student has to learn is what method of studying actually suits them and once you find that the rest seems to fall in place. Devoting time and resources to your students to improve in their core weaknesses and not being afraid to reteach the most basic skills should also be common…

As mentioned above a tutor has the opportunity to teach a lesson that is tailored specifically to a certain students strengths and weaknesses. As well as this a tutor has the opportunity to really motivate and instill confidence in a student. I think it is important that a tutor is someone that a student looks forward to seeing as both a teacher…

The most important thing would be to make the lessons engaging and fun so the student doesn't feel forced to be there and is able to enjoy working on the subject and gain pleasure out of it. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build trust and confidence. A student should feel comfortable asking questions without fear of being judged. Beyond improving grades, a tutor should help students develop study habits, problem-solving skills, and self-belief so they can succeed on their own too. My main strengths are patience…

A tutor should provide tailored help to each student by understanding their weaknesses and the areas which they find difficult to foster growth and improvement over time. This is synonymous with giving students strategies to be independent learners and more effective learners. Alongside this, a tutor can motivate a student through their…

Inside Minto HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Leon focused on financial maths, including textbook problems on simple and compound interest, and reviewed homework questions.

For Year 11 Sanjli, lessons centred on functions—exploring domain, range, and function notation—alongside challenging surds and indices factorisation using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Vasati sat a review exam covering rational numbers and operations with whole numbers to assess understanding before moving forward.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, a student repeatedly rushed through equation manipulation tasks without carefully reading each question, which led to misinterpretation of worded problems and missed key details—"he does not read the question in depth and rushes to conclusions," noted one tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student tackling trigonometry struggled to apply the correct formulas under timed conditions; confusion increased when encountering bearing questions that required careful breakdown of wording.

In Year 5 English, untidy handwriting and incomplete spelling practice meant errors were often overlooked during revision, making it harder for her to spot patterns or improve accuracy over time.

Recent Achievements

In Minto Heights, a Year 9 student who used to second-guess herself on tests completed an entire practice exam within the set time and even identified her own errors before being prompted.

Another high schooler made a shift from hesitating with worded maths questions to independently tackling tricky bearing problems and explaining her steps out loud.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students, who previously waited for help with unfamiliar words, now tries to sound them out herself and has started getting most spelling quiz answers right without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Al-Faisal College - Campbelltown.
