I think an important part of being a tutor is creating an intellectually stimulating environment that fosters student's curiosity and encourages them to enthusiastically engage with the course material. Further, a tutor should prioritise creating a supportive learning environment and building personable relationships with students where they feel…

Analyse the student and find out what they need the most, which area they need help and help them understand the concept, not just memorise them. I have excelled in maths and science in high school in Sydney and got band 6 in HSC Maths Extension 2 in year 11 as an accelerated student. I am now a third year medical student at Western Sydney…

I believe tutors have the biggest impact on how a student approaches a subject. Speaking from personal experience, I don't think I would've liked studying the subjects I had in year 10, 11 and 12 if I hadn't had good teachers who knew how to make the subjects interesting to learn. A tutor is capable of making studying feel less burdensome and I…

Other than the sharing of knowledge, I would say empathy. Being a tutor, it is not only about teaching. It is also about building a connection with your students and understanding their problems and struggles. Showing them care and respect would allow you to gain their trust and respect, which would be quite essential as they would be more engaged…

I believe the most important function of a tutor is to motivate and challenge their students to be the best version of themselves. Though tutors provide academic support, their main priorities should lie in their interpersonal connection with their students. If this connection didn’t exist, students might as well watch a prerecorded video. This…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence, create a safe space for learning, and help them develop independent problem-solving skills. A good tutor doesn’t just give answers, but guides students to understand how and why things work so they can apply that knowledge on their own. Supporting students…

Instead of teaching in a standard linear fashion, I prefer to let the pupil choose what they would like to practice and I will explain the concept while showing how the idea can be applied and adjusted. I also believe worded problems are a strong point that should be focused on as they test the knowledge of the student and how the student can…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate a student when they feel demotivated by making them feel confident in their skills and knowledge. It's important for the tutor to provide full support and guidance in an individualised manner to tailor to their specific needs. It's also important for the tutor to communicate…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build trust and confidence. A student should feel comfortable asking questions without fear of being judged. Inside Minto HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Leon focused on financial maths, including textbook problems on simple and compound interest, and reviewed homework questions.

For Year 11 Sanjli, lessons centred on functions—exploring domain, range, and function notation—alongside challenging surds and indices factorisation using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Vasati sat a review exam covering rational numbers and operations with whole numbers to assess understanding before moving forward.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, a student repeatedly rushed through equation manipulation tasks without carefully reading each question, which led to misinterpretation of worded problems and missed key details—"he does not read the question in depth and rushes to conclusions," noted one tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student tackling trigonometry struggled to apply the correct formulas under timed conditions; confusion increased when encountering bearing questions that required careful breakdown of wording.

In Year 5 English, untidy handwriting and incomplete spelling practice meant errors were often overlooked during revision, making it harder for her to spot patterns or improve accuracy over time.

Recent Achievements

In Minto Heights, a Year 9 student who used to second-guess herself on tests completed an entire practice exam within the set time and even identified her own errors before being prompted.

Another high schooler made a shift from hesitating with worded maths questions to independently tackling tricky bearing problems and explaining her steps out loud.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students, who previously waited for help with unfamiliar words, now tries to sound them out herself and has started getting most spelling quiz answers right without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for the email. We are very happy with Lisa. She is bright and keen and has established a very easy rapport with Xiao. Xiao actually really likes her. We feel very confident that Xiao will continue to make progress with her maths.

Thanks for the email.  I am very happy with Charlie he seems to be doing a good job and Ellah has said that he is doing a good job and is really teaching her the concepts.

We are very happy with AiPing, she works the boys hard and seems to be very knowledgeable.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Al-Faisal College - Campbelltown.
