I understand the struggles of high school students - the anxiety of asking questions and the lack motivation to learn. A tutor should be able to create a safe space for communication to tackle problems and provide useful solutions to such issues. Also, an important characteristic a tutor should have is to help motivate students with a positive…

A tutor is similar to a learning support assistant in schools, they are there to assist the teacher and they do lots of jobs to help students achieve learning goals. A tutor does the same thing except there is no classroom it’s just you and the student. I think just encouraging and supporting them as they navigate through their learning…

Clarify concepts: I believe I can help my student better understand difficult material by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable parts and explaining it in a way that is easy to understand. Provide feedback: I can also give my students constructive feedback on their work, helping them to identify areas for improvement and grow as…

Listening to their needs and their struggles is vital to finding a way for them to enjoy school and the subject. You need to be able to push the student but in a way that helps them to achieve something they're proud of. Pushing them for results is usually only going to increase their frustration and dislike for school/learning. Tutors are in a…

As a reliable and motivational tutor, I lead by example demonstrating initiative to commence and finish projects. I set clear expectations and monitor performance against agreed plans with key performance indicators. As trust, confidence and good performance is further demonstrated, I encourage initiative and reward students with more autonomy. I…

Isobel is energetic and a great communicator and Max felt instantly at ease with his first tutor session. She was a great listener and asked lots of questions to find out how she could assist and support him.

Inside MonashTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lily focused on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and also practised factorising and expanding binomials.

Year 10 student Noah worked through quadratic equations, including both the quadratic formula and solving by factorising with the null law.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Emma reinforced her understanding of fractions and percentages, tackling word-based problems that required breaking down each scenario step-by-step.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student did not complete any extra exam revision between sessions, so independent study routines are still not in place.

In Year 9, "he needs to prepare for sessions by picking out specific Pattern Test examples," but has yet to bring these to tutoring, slowing targeted help.

A Year 7 learner's algebra struggles were made worse by inconsistent written working; as one tutor noted, "workings were messy and backchecking was missed."

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student's homework was mostly incorrect when done alone but accurate during the lesson—showing difficulties applying feedback independently outside of support.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Monash noticed a big change in one Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to speak up, started confidently telling the tutor when something didn't make sense during their session on simultaneous equations—making it much easier to target help.

Another high schooler quickly picked up on how changing variables affects quadratic graphs and now asks for more challenging examples instead of just following along.

In a recent primary session, a younger student began using part-whole strategies for tricky word problems and started talking through her process out loud rather than guessing silently—she finished the lesson by solving the last problem completely independently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are very happy and have been very impressed by Kamran. He has a really lovely nature, is kind, encouraging and very professional. Daneeka finds him very easy to follow and understand and really enjoys her lesson with him every week and already is improving. I would most definitely recommend him to anyone that needs a wonderful maths tutor.

My son Joshua had Tu as a tutor and he had great results. He responded well to Tu as a teacher, his marks improved and he gained confidence through the tutoring.

We were very happy with your company and my daughter's tutor, Daniel. There was an obvious improvement in my daughter's performance and attitude towards maths as reflected in her end of year report.
