The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them realise the small learning mistakes commonly made that in my opinion are not useful further in life. Namely, learning my heart or just memorising to blurt out a concept without understanding its core only to score good grades. A Tutor should be able to make the student understand…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to create a positive and encouraging learning space, boost their confidence, and adapt the teaching to fit the student's needs. Helping them think critically and solve problems on their own also makes them more independent learners. My strengths as a tutor include quickly understanding…

It is one thing to help someone get the correct answer, but it is another thing to change student’s outlook. A positive and confident outlook will increase engagement, which means that the student is more likely to start having success even when the tutor is not present. This is my most important task as a tutor, because it builds independence…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is to conceptualise the content so that they can easily grasp the subject and work together with the student to deepen their understanding. Another important thing is to be easily available. it is important that tutors are available when the student needs it most in their schooling schedule; this…

There are things taught at school that are not always assimilated by some of the students. This is because in school, they follow a standard setting or style of teaching which is not applicable for everyone but only for a certain percentage or average. Tutors are built for this specific reason. Tutors customise and plan a specific program for a…

I believe a tutor should first understand the importance and value of their role in student's life. I promise on coming to tutorials with preparation, listening to students queries and being ready to provide them all the extra help they need to reach the goal. A great tutor can be a role model to a student, so I will always cherish that and play…

I should be able to make learning fun for the student and make the student feel more confident while dealing with the subject. The student might slowly develop liking for the subject if they find it easy and interesting. The most important task that should be done is that the concept is clear for the student such that they don't ever feel the…

My main priority as a tutor has always been to develop a love, or at least form of passion, from the student regarding whatever I teach. From first hand experience I know that it is almost impossible to truly devote effort and time into a subject you can't stand. I believe that understanding is the most important thing a tutor must do for a student. Without comprehension, the tutor would not be able to communicate with the student in the same language, making it impossible for the tutor to address the issue the student is having and come up with solutions to help the student's condition. I am currently…

A tutor can always assist a student to help understand all of their basic structural and systematic questions and problems. Also a tutor's guidance should inspire the student to work with dedication. In my opinion, the most critical responsibility of a tutor is not during the teaching phase, but in the phase that comes after the lesson. After learning the theory, the student will begin practising problems related to the topic and it is during this period, that most of the learning takes place. Hence, it is important for tutors to be there to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is empower them in their learning. It's important to help the student develop not only their skills but also their attitude towards learning because that is more often the first step in improvement and growth. I believe being able to provide individualised instructions is a crucial part of being a tutor. Tailoring teaching methods to suit the student's learning style, pace, and preferences ensures a more effective and personalised learning experience. Additionally, beyond academic achievements, a tutor should inspire a passion for learning and promote…

Deepti is working with my daughter for more than a year as her Tutor. The great strength of Deepti is the trust relationship that she develop with the students, so they feel comfortable to open up and get the guidelines she share and teach. My daughter was definitely improved her math, but more important improved her confident and approach to math.

Inside MoorabbinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ruby focused on multiplying by 2s and 3s as well as tackling multi-step addition problems, including an introduction to doubling larger numbers.

For Year 9, Liam worked through linear equations and revisited square roots and cube roots, practising with expansion using the F.O.I.L. method.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James tackled exponential and logarithm questions along with investigating data distributions in general mathematics, often reviewing homework questions together for consolidation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Science, a student's note-taking remained inconsistent—key points were often missed, making revision harder later. "He should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book," one tutor observed.

In Year 11 Maths, test stress led to unfinished questions and errors under time pressure; the student struggled to highlight keywords or pace himself during assessments.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 English student avoided revisiting past feedback, so similar issues recurred in writing tasks.

Across several grades, homework was incomplete or attempted only briefly between sessions, limiting deeper practice and retention when new topics appeared.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moorabbin recently noticed that a Year 10 student, who used to skip steps and feel stuck on algebra, now writes out each stage when expanding or factorising—he even tackled some problems in his head after practising FOIL.

Another high schooler showed a real shift by teaching back the substitution method for solving equations, something he'd previously struggled to remember without prompting.

Among younger students, one Year 4 girl went from guessing at multiplication to getting all her homework questions right with hardly any help and has started looking ahead at adding fractions on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
