CHING YING

Psychology Tutor Corio, VIC
"Tutoring improves the tutee's self-esteem, attitude toward subject matter, and academic performance as well as personal growth." Indeed, from a personal viewpoint, tutoring is not only providing additional support for students to 'complete' their homeworks. Building student's self-esteem and stimulating their interest are equally important. I…

Inside MooraboolTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Maya worked on multiplying and dividing fractions as well as linking fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Year 10 student Daniel focused on reviewing algebraic skills and practiced multiplying and dividing algebraic fractions.

Meanwhile, VCE Methods Unit 1 student Alex explored families of cubic polynomial functions and applied these concepts to real-world scenarios using polynomial function applications.

Recent Challenges

A common process challenge noted across both Year 7 and Year 10 sessions is not carefully reading questions before answering.

For example, during a recent Year 7 lesson, "Hudson forgot to read specific questions properly," leading to confusion when converting units.

In a Year 10 algebra session, Zack commented that he was "a little confused with certain questions" and sometimes zoned out or lost focus mid-task. This habit of skimming or rushing through instructions resulted in repeated errors or missed steps—extra time then went into clarifying what the question actually required rather than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Moorabool tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student, Zack, who used to avoid asking for help but now regularly pauses mid-question to clarify steps, especially in algebra and scientific notation—something he never did before.

In Year 11, Aiden has begun breaking down polynomial and probability questions independently on paper, often stopping himself to check against textbook examples if unsure, showing much more self-reliance than earlier in the year.

Meanwhile, Hudson (Year 8) has started talking through his reasoning out loud during fraction problems rather than guessing quietly, and this new habit helped him spot and fix errors in his last set of homework without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I've been working with Ezy Math Tutoring for the best part of 3 years and I can truly say it has been an honour to work with such a supportive and caring group of people. My students and their families have welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I was making a difference. Ezy Math always made working with them a breeze, ensuring that my needs and the needs of my students were accommodated for. I have recommended Ezy Math to fellow tutors in the past and shall continue to do so in the future. I would like to thank Ezy Math for all their support over the years and I look forward to many more successful tutoring relationships.

I would recommend  working with Ezy Math for any prospective tutor. The work is very satisfying. Maths can be a difficult subject for anybody, and when you can show someone an easier, systematic way to solve one of their problems the students really appreciate the help.

I came to work with Ezymaths because I knew I would get a wide range of students to tutor, which would undoubtedly improve my tutoring skill as well as communications skills (dealing with students and parents). The biggest accomplishment would be when my student's mark improved significantly and she moved up to the upper maths class in the next semester. I felt very proud of my students when they remembered the skills I taught them last week and used those skills to complete their homework and also to apply to other similar questions. The CEPs and various resources were useful. Thank you for your support for the past year!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corio Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kardinia International College - Kardinia Grove Campus.
