According to me the most important thing for the tutor is to understand that not all students understand concepts the same way and sense when students do not understand something and willingly try another approach of presenting the material to help the student. With this approach a tutor can make a difference in the student’s learning. I believe…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is tailor their approach to accomodate for the needs of a student. I also think it is incredibly important to offer both academic support and assurance, particularly when a student lacks academic confidence. A lot of the time, errors or poor performance are rooted in students' hesitance and belief…

Provide a safe space for the student to make mistakes without judgement. They don’t always have this at school with their peers looking on. Provide high level materials that don’t just duplicate those from school or in generic books. I really think about the resources we use to make sure they are the right level, challenging and have stretch…

The most important thing in my opinion is to not only be able to guide students to the correct answer, but also make them feel accomplished and enjoy the process of knowing nothing to all the knowledge they need in school. At the same time, a tutor have to be respectful at all times. Some of my strengths as a tutor are that I am great with…

The most important aspect of tutoring, besides providing students with better grades, is allowing them to feel comfortable when I am tutoring them. A logical concomitant of comfort is a better ability to learn and as a consequence better results. Thus, I place a great emphasis on understanding the idiosyncrasies of the student and allowing them to…

For smaller children, it is important that education is intesresting, entertaining to them, so the motivation for studying, learning content comes naturally and from their own. For older children, it is more important for tutors to reach out and ask the students what they don't understand or are not clear about. Targeting weak areas and fixing the…

A tutor is there to first and foremost, help a student to achieve his goals. Anyone can get through school with a certificate, but students with ambition sometimes need the extra push to get to where they want to be. Even if one's goals are not magnificent, a tutor can also be the one to guide the student in ways that a parent or school tutor…

The most crucial role of a tutor is to guide and support students in a way that suits their unique needs. This means adapting lessons to their learning style, helping them gain confidence, and encouraging them to think critically. Effective communication is key, as it allows students to express concerns and receive helpful feedback. Regularly…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make that student interested in what they are learning. Although students may not enjoy every aspect of what they're learning, if they can find even one thing that they enjoy, this could be enough. I am patient, determined, and kind to those that I tutor. So, I think that…

I believe personalisation is the most important thing a tutor can do. Yet you must also be able to alter this plan throughout the lesson in order to focus on where the student is…

Inside Moore ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Amaya practised vertical addition and subtraction, focusing on borrowing strategies for multi-digit sums.

In Year 10, Ethan worked through Chapter 8 Algebra problems, developing skills in expanding and simplifying expressions as well as solving linear equations.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Rhea refined her thesis writing for the English Common Module by analysing how "Billy Elliot" explores themes of commitment and gender stereotypes, while also practising essay structure using exemplar responses from recent HSC exams.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 mathematics, a reluctance to show full working—especially when expanding logs or graphing parabolas—meant mistakes went unnoticed and re-occurred. One tutor noted, "She was quite distracted and reluctant to do work," during a session on completing the square; this left gaps in understanding that slowed progress with later exam questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student's written layout became hard to follow when subtracting large numbers using borrowing, causing confusion over place value and leading to repeated errors.

In English (Year 10), overwhelming feedback on linking statements led to early lesson finishes as the student needed time to process new information.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moore Park recently noticed that a Year 12 student, Gemma, who once hesitated with completing the square and applying log laws, now comfortably solves complex quadratic equations and expands logarithmic expressions without prompting.

Meanwhile, Sefi in Year 10 has shifted from needing step-by-step help on surds to confidently simplifying and rationalising them independently.

In primary sessions, Amaya—who previously relied on counting with her fingers—has begun inventing her own mental addition patterns and requested extra homework for practice. Last week, she drew analogue clock times entirely on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Arman was fabulous, very thorough and explained maths to my daughter in a manner which she was able to grasp easily.

Verity improved a great deal with her maths last year. Her results from school where excellent and have thanked Peter very much. He did such an awesome job in tutoring her.

Our tutor is wonderful and has been extremely helpful and accommodating with scheduling.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Surry Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sydney Girls High School.
