One of them is to understand that all students have their own personality and style of learning. So I think for a tutor to see each student as unique is important in order to not give up on them. This way, the teaching and learning process will be more enjoyable for both parties. I am patient, and when I encounter a difficult problem, I will spend…

The most important thing that a tutor can provide for a student is support and motivation. When a student is struggling, they have low self-efficacy and motivation to engage with the subject. What is important is to use this knowledge to provide tutoring in a way that is relaxed and engaging. In addition the tutor should always value and strive to…

I aim to teach students how to identify their gaps and where to look, whether Google or Youtube or books or teachers. I will teach students study skills like note taking or flashcard techniques. Approach tutoring with an open mind. Some students can easily grasp the concepts while the others it may take time or a special approach for them to understand.Making the student feel comfortable is very important to allow them to express themselves and feel free to ask if they don't understand. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to impart the learnings you have acquired through your previous schooling and to show the tutee how it will be applied in real life. What is the point of this concept? And also relate to them in terms of their interests, that these concepts can be applied to their interests. My strengths are…

As far as my understanding, as a tutor, he/she always needs to motivate their students to think more widely and creatively. It is true, initially, they will fail several times. Allowing them to do it, will build their confidence for their future, which will be eventually worth it for their life. As a tutor, I am always friendly, patiently try to…

From my point of view, inspiring student motivation for learning and helping the student become an independent learner are the most important things a tutor can do for a student. When a tutor embodies passion for learning, students are more likely to have a positive emotional connection to learning. And in this way will inspire their motivation to…

In my opinion, the tutor's responsibility is to reaffirm the knowledge the student has already gained in school or help those who are behind. Considering this, I would say the most important thing is to understand and be patient with the student and help them to progress step by step. One of the most important things a tutor can do is help students see the significance and practicality of the concepts they are learning. Rather than just teaching for the sake of memorizing, a great tutor bridges the gap between theory and real world application, allowing students to appreciate the beauty of a subject. Because only when students…

Inside MoorookaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie worked on adding and subtracting fractions, as well as rounding decimals using practical examples.

In Year 8, Lily focused on algebraic equations and interpreting number planes, practicing with diagrams to build understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jacob revised compound interest problems through recurrence relations and applied them to real-life loan scenarios for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often struggled to stay focused during lessons, particularly at the start; as one tutor noted, "he had a very difficult time focussing during this session," which meant he needed more guidance and repeated explanations in basic fractions and decimals work.

In contrast, a senior student (Year 11) left working out incomplete when tackling square roots and complex equations—sometimes forgetting materials or skipping steps—so errors weren't easily spotted.

When it came to applying concepts from examples to exercises in higher-level maths, confidence faltered and progress slowed, especially if previous methods hadn't been retained.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Moorooka noticed that one Year 9 student, who used to get stuck on fraction problems, now multiplies and divides fractions with only a quick prompt, even tackling decimal questions independently.

In Year 11 maths, another student has gone from hesitating on algebra to attempting exam-style questions solo—he recently completed a full module of problem-solving tasks without needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student surprised their tutor by recalling previously tricky map skills from memory and confidently locating places during the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Moorooka State School.
