One of the main most important things a tutor can do for a student is increase their confidence with the subjects you are helping them to learn. Increasing their confidence makes it easier for them to learn and has a positive effect on their self esteem. This can also increase their motivation to learn and therefore assist in improving their study…

Be a role model and show them that it’s ok not to not be able to understand something at the beginning, but there is always a way around it to better their understandings. It’s also important for a tutor to help students reach their goals, whether that be getting certain grades or finishing an assignment. I’m a patient person and can work…

A good tutor should aim to understand the way their student thinks and aim to tailor the lesson to best suit their individual learning style. In addition, a good tutor should be motivating, encouraging and friendly so that the student is not afraid or hesitant to ask for assistance or say they don't understand a particular thing. As someone who is…

I think that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are these two things: Firstly teaching them what they need to learn (the subject you're tutoring), but more importantly, teaching them the skills of how to be confident and go find out what they need to learn and teach themselves. It is overall, teaching them the skills of how…

In my opinion, the most important role of a tutor is to not only retell information and explain answers but give students tools in studying different subjects that can be applicable to their independent study. In this way, the student can learn how to independently intake knowledge; a skill that will serve them not only in the year or subject that…

Local Reviews

Our tutor Lachlan, was very helpful from the very start of my son's very first tutoring session. He had a friendly as well as professional manner. And he did an amazing job of identifying my son's areas of difficulty and assisting him with those. I also really liked the examples he used to explain things. Straight after the session, my son went from feeling nervous & anxious with his maths tutor to then feeling happy and confident. Thanks so much Lachlan, great job so far!!!

Inside Morphett ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Sam focused on place value up to six digits and practiced the 2, 5, and 10 times tables using real-world examples.

Year 9 student Emily worked through factorisation techniques—covering difference of two squares and trinomials—and also reviewed key features of parabolas with targeted practice questions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Alex explored graphing quadratic equations in both intercept and vertex form, as well as identifying curve features like axis of symmetry and turning points.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, one student often skipped writing out working for multi-step equations—she jumped to answers but missed negative signs, a tutor noted. This meant errors went unnoticed until the end, requiring extra correction time.

In Year 12 trigonometry, another student mislabelled triangle sides and hesitated to choose the correct formula when under pressure, leading to confusion in test situations.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student lost focus midway through division practice and wanted to switch to games on her Chromebook instead of finishing written steps. These patterns resulted in unfinished work or self-doubt during revision and assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Morphett Vale recently noticed Lara, a high school student, identifying her own knowledge gaps before an exam and quickly relearning challenging topics like scientific notation and graphing parabolas—she'd previously needed more guidance but now asked targeted questions on her own.

Another high schooler, Sasha, demonstrated a clear shift by independently spotting and correcting errors in her algebra work, whereas earlier she waited for the tutor to point out mistakes.

In primary sessions, Nicole moved from needing help with basic rounding to scoring 75% on her latest test after starting at 0%, showing real progress through persistent effort.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Lochlan's first tutoring session with Anuraj was great.  Lochlan really liked him.

Everything is running smoothly with Anja she is a great communicator and it has made life easier.

Thomas Attard has been great, Max likes him and seems to be making progress and we are happy with the service.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Woodcroft Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Antonio Catholic School.
