Enable them to develop their own critical thinking skills and discover their own strengths. Encourage them to be self-reliant. Help them discover a passion for the subject. I am patient, thorough, and committed to a 'hands-off' approach: I want my students to learn to think for themselves and trust their own judgement. I also have a great sense…

Ancient History Tutor Applecross, WA
I believe a tutor's role is to guide, facilitate and provide feedback on the student's own work. It is essential that the student independently develops the skills necessary to become competent. A tutor's role in this process is to encourage the student to explore their own knowledge, and provide tips to consolidate their understanding, and make…

Ancient History Tutor
A tutor must build two things in a student: confidence and knowledge. A tutor develops confidence in a student by simplifying the learning process. Through tips and shortcuts, the student will confidently answer questions. The tutor also expands the student's knowledge by providing exposure to different learning materials. With these both, the…

Inside Mosman ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Lily worked on converting between decimals, fractions, and percentages as well as tackling percentage word problems using real-life scenarios.

In Year 9, Sophie focused on understanding circle theorems—solving problems involving tangents and alternate segment theorem, and practicing correct mathematical notation.

For Year 10, Marcus consolidated skills in sketching parabolas by completing the square and identifying key features from turning point form, also using discriminant rules for axis of symmetry.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student faced challenges with time management in tests, often leaving complex calculus questions unfinished; as one tutor observed, "he needed to plan which problems to tackle first but ran out of time."

In Year 8, another student's working was described as "messy and hard to follow," especially during algebra tasks—key steps were skipped on paper, making it tough to track errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner forgot to complete homework on subtraction with borrowing, so most of the lesson was spent revisiting old ground rather than building new skills. This slowed overall progress and left them feeling frustrated by the end.

Recent Achievements

One Mosman Park tutor saw a Year 11 student move from hesitating over critical points in functions to independently finding x- and y-intercepts and confidently identifying maxima and minima without prompting.

A Year 9 student who used to skip over tricky worded ratio problems now tries each question solo before asking for help, neatly setting out her solutions and catching her own errors.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Jimmy has shifted from guessing during subtraction to actively voicing his doubts and using a checklist he created to avoid place value mistakes—he finished the session by solving all borrowing questions unaided for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Kicking myself for not starting tutor earlier! It would have helped tremendously with Jayden's studies and being able to work independently!

We had the first session with Nick today and he was fantastic! He focused on the right areas and really engaged with Yvette....I think we are on the right track.

Tabinder has made Leon come a long way in the last 2 weeks and he is quite proud of his achievements.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Claremont Community Hub & Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mosman Park Primary School.
