Economics Tutor Mount Colah, NSW
Establishing a routine is one of the most important things an economics tutor can do for a student. Tutor helps the student to identify the root-cause of a problem and then finding out the solution. A schedule is followed throughout the teaching tenure. This practice not only helps the student to excel in their studies, but also in their lives as…

Economics Tutor Mount Colah, NSW
I consider the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to ensure that the student fully understands the content being taught at their level. I think it can be quite easy for a tutor to rush or even skip the easy stuff in favour for the more interesting, harder content, which can leave a student lost and feeling inadequate.…

I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do is ensure the student knows we are on their side and only want them to improve. To create a comfortable places where all questions, marks, practise papers and ideas can be discussed without judgement. To be a person where they can just focus on improvement and nothing else I think my…

Economics Tutor Turramurra, NSW
As a passionate tutor, the responsibility to create confidence and trust is vital in learning. Confidence allows students to tackle difficult and complex problems, serving as a 'stepping stone' to build a mathematical foundation. It can also act as an incentive for students to engage in lessons comprised of challenges. Furthermore, building trust…

Economics Tutor Thornleigh, NSW
A tutor should provide a safe space for the student, both academically and mentally. It is important that a tutor empathizes with the students and provide them vivid and interesting perspectives about the subjects which goes beyond school learning. Furthermore, it is needed that the tutor - student relationship be a team work, where the tutor is…

Economics Tutor North Turramurra, NSW
I think the most important thing for a tutor to do is to continue to provide ongoing support for its student. The tutor needs to help the student through their educational journey by providing extensive resources for their students in order for them to grow to become successful students. I am quite flexible with my time which allows me to help my…

Economics Tutor Gordon, NSW
Give them time and space. I believe these two aspects are the most important thing we can give students but understanding how to manage these two factors as a tutor we give the private space for them to develop as well as provide them with help when they require us. I am very patient and outgoing, therefore it is easy for students to ask me…

Inside Mount ColahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Liam worked on solving linear equations, including making x the subject and handling fractions and negatives.

Year 10 student Ella revised algebraic techniques by rearranging equations and tackling simultaneous equations using practice problems.

For Year 11, Sam focused on standard deviation and measures of spread in statistics, as well as representing data through cumulative histograms and Pareto charts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was hesitant to write out full working in algebra, often "prone to working on line," which led to confusion when reviewing multi-step problems.

In Year 11, one student skipped reading the textbook before lessons and attempted questions only after explanation; as a tutor noted, "I feel that he doesn't see the value in doing the work."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student repeatedly avoided using visual aids for decimals and struggled with number placement in formal multiplication. This sometimes left them feeling stuck mid-question, unsure of the next step without external prompting.

Recent Achievements

One Mount Colah tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with algebraic concepts—this week, he completed several challenge questions almost entirely on his own and started laying out his working more clearly.

Another high schooler who'd struggled with measures of spread previously was able to tackle complex examples independently by the end of the session, after just a bit of initial guidance.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, one student who often waited for help now volunteered answers during multiplication practice and finished all ten problems without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Anne is loving tutoring and James is doing an amazing job so yes we are very happy and wish to continue!

Jamie has said he thinks the maths tutoring is good and feels more confident in maths tests at school. He seems to have a positive attitude towards his maths tutoring sessions and responds well to Cal's patient and encouraging approach.

Lauren and Caitlin have got off to a good start. Lauren is very understanding of Caitlin's needs and has worked really hard on preparing her for her first term Math exam. Caitlin has already built some confidence knowing she will do better ( after starting with Lauren). She also knows it is only early days. Lauren is very good at explaining things at a Caitlin level.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hornsby Shire Library & Information Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Colah Public School.
