When I was a student, I often struggled to understand new concepts. I remember how much I wished for someone who could help me untangle those knots in my learning and fortunately, I found a maths tutor who did exactly that. He was patient, understanding, and never made me feel embarrassed for asking questions, no matter how many times I needed to.…

the most important thing that a maths tutor can do for a student is actually teach them something in that one hour or two hour session that they have with them. From experience, i have seen both sides of this as i was a student who had taken up tutoring as well. Making them feel motivated and the willingness to learn the material is essential as…

One of the most important things tutor can do for a student is provide them with a lot of feedbacks as well as lots of revision. It is from feedback that students understand where they have been going wrong and how to improve on it. Revision is essential because knowing content is one thing, learning to apply them is another. From experience, I…

Just being a support for the student in question. Now, obviously, the first idea to jump to there is academically, and this is super important, of course, but also school is a naturally difficult time for a lot of students for a large variety of reasons, and even if the tutor nor student realize it, being there to help dealing with it is a massive…

I believe the most important aspect that a maths tutor can have is to push a student to be their best while trying their hardest without feeling like their result will be the "be all or end all". It is also a tutor's responsibility to make any concepts no matter how hard feel easy and achievable to any student which will allow them to transfer…

As a high school leaver, I consider providing support and trust as well as accurate academic knowledge to be the most important thing that a maths tutor can do for a student. Sharren is wonderful. They have formed an instant connection, and Bree is already feeling more confident and did an open book maths test yesterday without looking at the book hardly at all. Sharren is already a part of the house when i walk through the door and she is already in my opinion, the best tutor for Bree

Inside Mount PritchardTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Arabella practised telling time on both analogue and digital clocks, and compared fractions visually using shapes.

Year 7 student Elena focused on interpreting column graphs in data, as well as simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and substituting values for variables.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through quadratic equations using the quadratic formula, then applied trigonometry concepts to solve right-angled triangle problems with step-by-step guidance.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided showing working in algebra, saying "I just went straight to the answer," which hid sign errors and made it difficult to spot calculation slips—especially with negatives.

In a Year 7 session, homework was brought in the wrong notebook and worded questions were skipped if they looked hard; this led to gaps when reviewing feedback.

Meanwhile, a senior student tackling quadratic factorisation struggled to attempt new question types independently, hesitating unless prompted.

In primary years, a focus on only familiar times tables slowed progress with division tasks, while rushed written work meant punctuation and layout were inconsistent even when answers were correct.

Recent Achievements

One Mount Pritchard tutor noticed a Year 10 student who'd always hesitated with substitution and parallel lines start to independently solve these questions after several weeks of targeted practice, now confidently working through them without prompting.

In Year 7, a student who previously rushed and made frequent errors on "jump strategy" problems slowed down, took her time, and answered every question correctly in the last session—a big shift from her earlier frustration.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who used to struggle telling time now reads both digital and analogue clocks smoothly and even draws clock faces accurately on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I'm really happy with my tutor Karen which has helped me a lot with my work so far, she really does help me with my errors and to understand my topic and it has made a difference to my learning and I'm more ahead of the class now. I would really like to thank this company for letting me try and push my ability to my greatest. I hope the rest of year stays the same and once again thank it had made a big difference.

Jade has settled in really well with Sangdi, and has told me that she feels she is learning and understanding new things each time they have a meeting. I am also happy with Sangdi as I can see that he has already made progress with Jade.

Holly has stated that Jennifer her tutor is helping her with her Maths. She is certainly in a better frame of mind with Jennifer than when either myself or my husband had tried to help in the past. Early days yet but looking positive.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Whitlam Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Primary School Mount Pritchard.
