Tutor Tahmoor, NSW
The two most important things a tutor needs to be is to have patience and be able to explain concepts 2 (or more!) ways. I will stay patient and explain concepts in multiple ways until the student understands. Eventually, everything that I have explained will click with the student! I am patient with students and never put people down for mistakes…

Tutor The Oaks, NSW
Encourage the student that mistakes are okay and they are made even by experts; create a positive atmosphere whilst tutoring; remain patient and explain a concept clearly when the student does not understand; and being compassionate to their needs and learning ability. My strengths would be the ability to be patient, highly organised, assertive…

Inside Mowbray ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack practised long addition, subtraction, and division, then moved on to adding decimals and rounding numbers.

For Year 8, Olivia worked on factorising and expanding algebraic expressions as well as converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages using GST examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Alex focused on calculating increases and decreases in money by percentage and revisited financial maths concepts through exam-style problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student did not review geometry before her test, resulting in confusion with polygons and area problems—her tutor noted she "only had one week before" and didn't use it for targeted revision.

In Year 10 algebra, another student avoided showing working when equations grew complex; as a tutor observed, "he skipped steps in factorisation, which hid sign errors."

For a senior (Year 12) class, summary sheets were left incomplete and exposure to full exam papers delayed. This led to repeated struggles on differentiation and integration tasks during timed assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Mowbray Park tutor recently noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to hesitate when stuck on equations—now, instead of guessing, he confidently asks clarifying questions and works through mistakes independently.

In a senior session, another student who struggled with trig identities earlier in the term showed new persistence, successfully proving several identities on her own after extra practice.

Meanwhile, during a primary lesson, a younger student who found decimals confusing last month was able to explain how to convert between fractions and decimals without any prompts from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wollondilly Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wooglemai Environmental Education Centre.
