The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student, according to me, is to foster an environment of kindness and encouragement. Students that need tutoring may often feel unwelcome in a classroom setting and as such, it is important to cultivate an environment that allows room for mistakes, as well as encourages a genuine excitement for…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is listen to the students and identify their problem areas. Providing motivation to students help them persevere is quite essential to their development. I am a good listener and problem solver. I enjoy a challenge and always ask questions to feed my natural curiosity. I am also committed and loyal…

I believe that creating a true relationship and connection with the student is an incredibly important part of being a successful tutor. If the student genuinely enjoys their tutoring session they are more likely to want to continue to learn and therefore engage with the content. By building a portfolio with the student, they are more likely to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be supportive in helping students reach their full potential. Whether this be through going over difficult concepts, assisting in methods of memorisation and retaining information, or providing effective study techniques, it is the role of a tutor to support their students in areas needed.…

Actively listening to the student and what they want to achieve. Being empathetic to the student and if a particular strategy isn't working, then tackling it from a different angle until together the tutor and student find what works best for the student and their style of learning. I am intuitive, empathetic and an excellent listener. I myself…

Inside MullalooTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Leia practised reading and writing time notations and reviewed multiplication facts for the 6 times tables.

In Year 8, Sophie focused on comparing simple and compound interest as well as applying ratios to practical financial problems.

For Year 10, James worked through Pythagoras' Theorem applications and explored graphs of trigonometric functions using visual aids to strengthen understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, exam stress and panic have disrupted Sophie's ability to apply her knowledge under pressure; as noted, "panic is cropping up as a big issue," sometimes leading to overthinking or blanking on multi-step problems in measurement.

In a Year 7 session, reliance on mental calculations for multi-step worded questions meant working wasn't shown, hiding small errors and making it hard to pinpoint where understanding slipped.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 maths, incomplete homework has stalled progress with time conversions—self-initiative outside sessions is lacking.

On the English side (Year 12), running out of time to recall quotes left responses unfinished.

Recent Achievements

One Mullaloo tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to feel overwhelmed by maths tests now arriving with detailed, self-prepared notes and asking targeted questions—something she rarely did before.

In another session, a Year 8 student who'd previously guessed at tricky linear equations began pausing to talk through her reasoning aloud, which helped her spot mistakes on her own.

Meanwhile, in primary school tutoring, one younger learner who struggled with time concepts last term was able to convert between 12- and 24-hour formats without prompting and even explained the process back confidently.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Aslinn is currently travelling along well. We have valued Jess's contribution to her reaching her goals in maths. If Aslinn needs further assistance we will have no hesitations in using your service.

My daughter progressed so well with the support of your tutor, Eliran and we think she is ready to work independently. Thank you for providing a great educational service. We will keep you in mind if we need your support for the future.

Gabriele loves Monica and I will be looking at upping his tutorials to once a week after term 3. We are very happy. I have recommended your service to 4 of the parents of children in Gabriele's class. Unfortunately there has been a massive and noticeable drop in the teaching, motivation, and comprehension of mathematics for our class, but you have helped us immensely and I have passed this information on. Monica is a dream, and understands my son very well, and they have bonded quite quickly.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Whitford Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mullaloo Heights Primary School.
