I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide clear explanations in order to prevent doubts and misunderstandings, by breaking down complex concepts in manageable steps and to adapt to the student's learning preferences. Ultimately, in my opinion, a tutor’s goal is to equip students with the necessary tools and…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to build up their students' confidence in their own abilities so that they can begin to work to solve problems on their own, and to support them as they grow into their full potential. I have a lot of knowledge and passion for the subjects I would tutor which would help to encourage that same passion and…

Find ways to make not just the student but me myself as a tutor actually enjoy learning the subject in a rather fun and different manner. The student would find it advantageous if they followed unconventional but easier methods of learning to ultimately help better their grades. It does not matter how smart the tutor is, it all depends on how…

Have an appreciation for their unique learning style. Every child learns differently and is passionate about learning different things. It is ESSENTIAL for a teacher to be able to discover what their student is passionate about, so they can find ways to motivate that specific student, to be able to engage them in the right way, but also so they…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence and foster a love for learning. Most important according to me a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel comfortable enough so that a student is able to ask doubts without being hesitant and is able to share all the problems that they might be facing. I am an incredibly sharp observer. If a pupil is able to understand what I taught, that is something I can definitely…

The most important thing a tutor can do for his student is to be his friend first and then a tutor. If I can be a good friend of my student I can be a great tutor as well because teaching is all about what level of comfort you share with your students and if I am their friend the level of comfort would be high which will make the process of…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is instill a sense of curiosity in a student, and a love for learning. This in turn creates a drive within the student to keep learning and allows them to study/practice for themselves and continues to build confidence in their own intelligence I can explain concepts in many ways and…

I think a tutors support and belief in a student is really important. The knowledge that the tutor thinks they can do well is often just as important as the actual tutoring because if they think it's possible, they won't give up I am able to come up with multiple ways to explain different topics meaning that there are different opportunities for a…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to make their students more confident in their learning. Inside MurrumbeenaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lily focused on simplifying fractions and practising multiplication facts up to 10, using visual aids for support.

Year 7 student Ava tackled linear equations and explored plotting points on the Cartesian plane, including drawing straight-line graphs by hand.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ethan worked through trigonometry concepts such as bearings and distances, as well as calculating surface area and volume of composite shapes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student left their homework incomplete and was "easily distracted," often rushing through fractions and worded problems without full confidence, as one tutor observed.

In a Year 8 algebra session, skipping steps when solving equations led to small errors—practicing showing all working became necessary for test preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student relied on back-checking answers but occasionally misapplied formulas before correcting themselves.

The struggle to commit times tables to memory persisted in Year 5; repeated revision was needed as material was quickly forgotten, leading to frequent revisiting of the same multiplication concepts week after week.

Recent Achievements

One Murrumbeena tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to tackle statistics problems alone—she completed her entire homework set without needing prompts.

In Year 12, another student who used to second-guess herself with complex loan calculations is now confidently comparing interest rates and can choose the most cost-effective loan on her own.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled to show his maths working has started organising each step clearly in his book instead of skipping ahead, finishing all ten practice questions accurately for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Joshua feels comfortable with Linh so far, which is fantastic. His teaching skills are impressive! Very happy so far...

Eddy is really happy with Amy! I am so pleased to advise he has quickly built a rapport with her and has been really positive following their tutoring sessions.

My son and myself are greatly satisfied with the work that Jacqualine is putting forth to my son Tyler, he looks forward to every session. Jacqueline is professional, explains the following subjects until my son grasps on but also makes learning enjoyable. Not only myself by Tyler's teacher has seen an improvement with his confidence when completing a math's task at school. I believe we are in the process of having Tyler's teacher also liaise with Jacqueline to make this process a easier transition.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carnegie Library and Community Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Murrumbeena Primary School.
