The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empathise. It’s essential to understand how a student feels—whether it’s about the content itself or the teaching style being used. A tutor who can step into a student’s shoes is better able to identify their struggles, adapt their approach, and create a supportive learning…

In my view , the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them and help them in gaining an inbuilt confidence in those subjects in which he is weak. In my perception, at first students should start to love their subject , then automatically they start to score well in that. I think I can deal with students according to their…

This boost in confidence transforms their approach to learning, fostering resilience, encouraging independent problem-solving, and paving the way for academic…

Establishing an environment that the student would be comfortable to learn in is important. This would keep them from getting discouraged and would urge them to further enhance their capabilities without worrying about expectations. I would say that my strengths as a tutor would stem from my ability to adapt to any case. People learn at different…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is show that the student can be independent in their thinking and be capable of approaching a question from different angles. I am very against rote learning mathematics as it is not useful to real life and will set them up for failure in university. Therefore my approach involves understanding the…

The special thing about a tutor compared to a classroom teacher is that tutors deal with students on a much more personal level, with this, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand and relate to the student personally his/her insights on the subject. Tutors can try to understand why the student either love,…

The most essential thing a tutor should do for their students is to encourage them to improve every day by ensuring that they understand the concepts clearly. I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to understand their lifestyle and work according to that so that there is minimal pressure and more learning for them. In order to do that, it’s better to get to know the child and adjust according to what they prefer and how they want to be treated and/or taught. I think…

I consider patience to be an incredible skill for tutoring and most teaching jobs as it may or may not take time to reach the students. A tutor should be able to help clear each and every notion that the student has about a certain topic. They should not get tired of explaining concepts on repeat. A good tutor should always be consistent and take note of what their student does. They should regularly follow up on lesson plans and make sure that the student is not burdened by any…

1. A tutor must be interactive and must be collaborative. 2. Tutor should know the subject matter thoroughly and in detail and should be ready to clear any sort of confusions. 3. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is address a students weakens and advise them on how they can improve upon that weakness. Working according to the student whatever works for them,…

Inside NarellanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Kyle focused on distinguishing scalar and vector quantities and converting velocities from km/h to m/s, using worked examples for clarity.

In Year 10, Jared practised solving simultaneous equations and explored effective note-taking strategies such as colour-coding and visual aids while preparing for upcoming assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Ava reviewed fraction operations—including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—and applied PEMDAS rules through targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, a student struggled to recall and apply key formulas for motion under constant acceleration—despite regular prompts, he could only remember parts of each equation without support.

As noted, "Kyle needed help breaking vectors into components during revision," which led to repeated hesitations when tackling force problems.

In senior Chemistry, another student left several exam study equations half-remembered in notes; over-reliance on revision sheets meant gaps persisted unless actively addressed.

Missed homework in Year 10 Maths further limited progress—twice in a row, practice was incomplete, making it harder to catch and correct errors before assessments arrived.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Narellan noticed Kyle, a Year 11 student, shifting from relying on explanations to taking the initiative by asking focused questions and writing detailed notes during Physics—something he hadn't done before.

In Year 12 Maths, Ava moved beyond just following steps: she now explains her strategy out loud before tackling problems, a big change from her earlier uncertainty with quadratic equations.

Meanwhile, in a recent Year 6 session, Anthony showed new independence by identifying his own mistake and correcting it without prompting—a first for him this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Narellan Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Narellan Public School.
