One of the most important things a tutor can do for the student is to, engage with them to make the lessons fun yet still learning valuable content along the way. I believe making a student become confident in their own ability is very important. Students sometimes have doubts themselves and I believe I can encourage them to be confident and actually enjoy learning. A tutor should also develop growth in a student and provide a practical path to succeed. I am relatable, hardworking and easy going. I am able…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them realise that they are not studying just for the mark, score or ATAR but rather to benefit themselves first, and benefit the people around them. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is be supportive. All behaviour is belief driven, if a tutor convinces a pupil that he can do it, he will. I believe I am calm, patient, persevering, and supportive. Especially when it comes to perseverance, I will not be deterred if a student doesn't originally understand my explanations as, if I…

In my point of view, students and tutors must be like a friends so that tutor can teach and student can learn easily. Similarly, every tutor needs to be prepared before they enter in classroom to teach because it will help tutors to express their views in such a way that students can learn and understand easily. Teaching effectively so that the student can understand the content. It is important to make the students do their own work, rather than doing it for them as they do not learn effectively if the tutor does the work for them. Working with students can be a challenge, especially if we're meeting to help them bring up low grades. Inside NarweeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Raeed practised using number lines to solve addition and subtraction problems, and compared the size of numbers up to the thousands using greater than and less than symbols.

In Year 8, Lachlan worked on applying Pythagoras' theorem to both straightforward and worded questions, as well as consolidating his understanding of linear equations by graphing on Cartesian planes and identifying slopes.

For Year 9, John focused on trigonometric functions—learning SOHCAHTOA to find unknown sides in right-angled triangles—and reviewed indices laws ahead of an upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student, when working through algebra problems, often solved steps mentally rather than writing them out—this led to sign errors that went unnoticed until the answer was checked ("he could improve by writing down his 'working-out' instead of solving the problems mentally").

In Year 5 maths, a student tackling multiplication and division patterns hesitated to use written methods, preferring mental calculations; this slowed progress and caused confusion with more complex sequences.

A senior student's English analysis responses lacked depth because they did not fully incorporate weekly vocabulary or address multiple perspectives, limiting the detail in their essays.

Recent Achievements

One Narwee tutoring session saw a high school student, Lachlan, begin to ask more questions and actively seek clarification when he was unsure—where previously he tended to stay quiet if he got stuck.

Another notable win: John, also in high school, managed to self-identify errors in his own written work using the markscheme and could explain how to improve for next time, which is a real shift from needing constant external feedback.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, Raeed showed new independence by carrying out column addition with large numbers correctly after struggling with carrying the one just a few weeks ago.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Anthony sat his final Maths exam today and I would like to thank you and especially Jonathan for his efforts and restoring confidence in my son's ability in sitting his exam.

Stella did an excellent job tutoring Tori for her HSC and at this stage we think she did reasonably well in the exam

I want to thank you so much, as Zoe has been so amazing. Ella has loved learning from her and I hope that if we come back next year we can request her.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Penshurst Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Narwee Public School.
