The most important thing a tutor can do is understand individual requirements of students for each subject and create a method that is best for them. Making the student comfortable and creating an environment that prompts students to look forward towards the tutoring sessions. I am a very calm and composed individual and I often adapt to the pace…

I feel the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create an environment in which the student can feel safe to question what is being discussed and openly communicate lack of understanding and vulnerability. In my opinion, the worst thing a mentor can do is to appear unapproachable. When I was in this position, my mentor was very…

I think the best thing a tutor can do for their students is show that they are interested in them as individuals. I think tutors should find out what their students are interested in and use this as a tool in teaching. Being able to make a connection like this makes the experience more enjoyable and educational for both student and tutor. I think…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to eliminate anxiety surrounding the subject, and create positive learning experiences through the use of praise and purposeful learning. It is important to acknowledge every achievement, no matter how big or minor, to increase confidence and self-worth. It is important that a tutor…

I consider that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to accompany and motivate them while facilitating their learning. However, it's ultimately the student who holds the power to improve. I believe tutoring is a form of coaching, and I also think that, at times, the student has much to teach the tutor. It's a collaborative…

I truely believe that the most important thing as a tutor is being there for your students. You not only have to give your best to help them you should also be a person of trust for them. In a lot of situations those students have problems beyond the school like in private life so that affects their grades. By just talking with them personally and…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide guidance, support, and encouragement. A tutor plays a crucial role in a student's learning journey, and there are several important things a tutor can do to effectively support their students: Every student is unique. I believe that if a tutor is kind, patient and shows respect, they will see greater results with their students. In order for effective learning, it is paramount to create a distraction-free, positive environment, and prepare well-thought out lessons ahead of time. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is bring him to enjoy the subject he is learning. A tutor needs to be able to imbibe in a student, a way of thinking about things, instead of just spoonfeeding the content and making everything easy for the student. It is very important to clear the basics of the student before anything else. Once the base is strong enough, the student will be able to handle any level of complexity in things. I…

We have been very happy with Thilac.

Inside New FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ben practised identifying and writing sentences with metaphors, similes, and personification to boost creative language skills.

For Year 11, Ella worked through her Maths Essentials assignment—focusing on completing the conclusion section—and reviewed feedback for her English IA2 task.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack explored chemical stoichiometry by balancing equations and briefly reviewed a recent maths assignment for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often arrived unprepared, with forgotten materials and assignments, which made it difficult to settle quickly into lessons.

In Year 10 Maths, he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors, resulting in more time spent retracing calculations than progressing.

A senior Chemistry student became sidetracked by unrelated physics content during revision, leading to incomplete review of essential topics before an upcoming assessment.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 English draft was overloaded with information but lacked clear referencing—feedback given wasn't fully addressed in the final submission, leaving assignment requirements unmet and creating last-minute stress.

Recent Achievements

One New Farm tutor noted that a Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly seeking clarification during sessions, making it much easier to target her learning needs.

In a recent Year 9 session, a student who struggled with focus earlier in the term stayed engaged through the whole lesson and completed his assignment draft with only minor corrections needed.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student showed new independence by attempting every question unprompted in his maths test—something he avoided before—and finished the series pattern problems entirely on his own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Miki has been seeing Sachin for over a year.  We all think he is brilliant.  He is incredibly reliable, highly talented and thoroughly courteous.  We could not imagine a better tutor.

As Jessica has her final exams next week we would like to discontinue her maths tutoring. We have been extremely pleased with your service and would recommend you to others.

Miah has done really well in her final maths exam! Her tutoring lessons with Alex are obviously working.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as New Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
