The primary role, I believe, for a teacher is to guide students to the right direction. With all the progress in information technology, educational content is readily available for literally anyone willing to learn something. The key role, for a modern-day teacher, I feel is to help students understand what they might be looking for and how they…

Being Non-judgmental with a desire to help; does not make assumptions about students; treats all students as individuals who want to learn and have the ability to learn no matter what their personal background or circumstances are. Encourages independence: You do not want the student to rely on you at all times. Let them know that they must put…

In the short term, help them get over the current difficulties they're facing. But in the long term, help them develop the skills to deal with future difficulties without a tutor being needed. I am very passionate about mathematics. I have a methodically logical mind, but also a lot of appreciation for the beauty of the subject, which I believe I…

Provide Individualized Support: Every student has unique learning needs, strengths, and challenges. A tutor should tailor their approach to meet the specific requirements of each student, whether it involves addressing gaps in understanding, building upon existing knowledge, or adapting teaching methods to suit different learning styles. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is listen to the student as much as teach them. If a student has any complaints, maybe approach the content differently, try to reach a compromise, or just find a better way to communicate that you want them to improve, and, most importantly, that they can. I have a good communication experience,…

The most important thing for a tutor would be to help the student in any way possible, not only academically, but also, in life. Wherever possible, the tutor must help the students by sharing their own experiences and making sure that the student ends up a well disciplined and focused individual. One of my strengths as a tutor is I can explain a…

A tutor should focus on making learning approachable and building a student’s confidence over time. Back in Bangladesh, I saw how effective it is when students feel comfortable asking questions without fear of judgment. Now, as I study Applied AI in Australia, I try to bring that same mindset — simplifying complex topics, encouraging…

A tutor must be able to not only provide feedback, but also be able to respond to a student that is active in the process of learning. They must be able to structure learning around the student's difficulties in a topic, and give a pre-determined plan of how they are going to make that student's difficulties a strength. Because of this, they…

To listen, and understand why a student isn't understanding a topic. Everyone is different, and tutors need to be able to adapt to everyone's own needs, and be able to find creative ways to teach them in ways they will actually learn. It is also important to ensure students go back to previous topics after learning them, to ensure long-term…

A tutor needs to analyse and understand the way a specific student learns, and cater for that. While a tutors ability to explain a problem is important, I believe the ability to explain a problem in a variety of different ways, while also showing a student that needing help with school is completely normal, is of upmost importance. I understand…

I believe understanding a student on a deeper level and giving what he/ she needs. That could be motivation to move ahead , assurance of being there with them , confidence to explore interests and lastly a friend so that they can openly tell if they are not understanding something. I have always loved kids and I completely understand there are…

Inside NewcombTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Eliz focused on double digit multiplication and long division, followed by an introduction to the concept of factors using targeted practice problems.

Year 8 student Mia revised linear equations and practiced graphing algebraic functions, with extra attention given to interpreting tables of values for parabolas.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Liam worked through calculus skills including anti-differentiation, applying these techniques to find areas under curves and revisiting trigonometric integration through exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

For a Year 4 maths student, repeatedly forgetting to bring essential materials like books and calculators meant valuable lesson time was spent improvising rather than consolidating division and multiplication skills.

In senior maths (Year 11), one student's over-reliance on mental calculations—especially in Pythagoras' Theorem—led to persistent errors; as the tutor put it, "She needs to remember she doesn't have to do all the maths in her head."

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student hesitated to trust their instincts during calculus questions, second-guessing themselves even when they knew the process, which slowed progress through complex integrals.

Recent Achievements

A Newcomb tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who had struggled with anti-differentiation now picking up the formula for brackets independently and using coordinates to find equations without prompting.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to attempt tougher exam questions began eliminating wrong answers methodically and used her calculator confidently for graphing tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often waited for reassurance before reading aloud started tackling new texts by herself, self-correcting tricky words as she went. Last week, she finished her chosen storybook chapter out loud without pausing for help.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Ezy Math Tutoring is a company that I would comfortably work with again as it provided me with the opportunity to work with students commited to improving in the classroom. Ezy Math Tutoring is not only a company that aims to help students with their mathematics but goes above and beyond to help clients with their general student careers, through the Continuing Education Program modules that tutors are asked to go through with their students on a regular basis. I liked the purpose they served. Ezy Math Tutoring finds great importance in informing the parents about their childs progress. The monthly progress reports help busy parents keep up to date with the work being covered and the overall progress of their child, which was the main attraction for me. If you are seeking a professional service that provides results I would highly reccomend Ezy Math Tutoring to any of the parents and prospective tutors out there. 22nd July 2012

Ezy Math Tutoring provided me with a lot of support, resources and training during my time working for them. I found teaching the students very rewarding and seeing the improvement in results really made it worth it. I would definitely recommend Ezy Math Tutoring for both prospective clients and fellow tutors as each will benefit greatly from this service. 23rd July 2012

Ezymaths is a great place to work as tutors are provided with the combination of independence and assistance needed to further any students' education. 30th July 2012
