The most important virtue that I consider for being a tutor for a student is having the patience to understand what they are expecting out of me, in order for me to give them back the necessary skills and training they require to excel in their domain. In addition to this, having a practical approach other than the traditional teaching style is…

In mi opinion, a tutor should take care of the students in terms of ensuring that they understand each one of the concepts and topics explained. He/she should not hesitate in repeating an explanation as many times as necessary if the student doesn't understand any topic. After finishing my bachelor in Aerospace engineering and some international…

A tutor must recognise the level of understanding of a student and then explain concepts to that level. This will ensure progress of the student. 1) I have patience to keep explaining till the student understands it. 2) I teach each student differently based on their level of understanding. 3) I prepare myself well before the session, try to…

As per my opinion, I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be their friend and guide and help them as their friend. More often than not, students fear approaching tutors. But if you have maintained a friendly relation with your students, your students will not hesitate in coming and speaking with you. This way, a…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, make learning less stressful, and explain things in a way that actually makes sense to them. It’s also important to be patient, encouraging, and flexible, every student learns differently, so a tutor should be able to adapt to their needs and help them feel…

As each student is unique it is important to assess their level of learning, identify the areas where they are lacking and then provide suitable tutoring. The most important thing for a tutor is to be an individual that students can openly and freely talk to other than being able to give knowledge. Local Reviews

Thanks so much. Jasmine (our tutor) and the Ezy Math team have been super great to work with. It was easy to set up the tutoring, fast to get started, and the ongoing support from both our tutor and the admin team has been exceptional. My son has had minimum math at school this year from him tacher and we feared him entering grade 5 without the knowledge or confidence he needed. Jasmine has easily bought him up to speed. He is now going into grade 5 feeling confident, happy and at grade 5 and above standard. Thanks again.

Inside NewportTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Alex focused on factorising polynomials using the rational root theorem and worked through problems involving sums and differences of cubes.

Year 11 student Sienna practised drawing cubic graphs and finding their equations, then explored domain and range questions using sample test materials.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Daniel reviewed linear graphing skills—finding x- and y-intercepts and forming straight-line equations—while also tackling introductory probability concepts with real-world examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student was advised to review algebra calculations, but relied on repeating only familiar problem types for homework; as one tutor put it, "she needs to work on algebra calculations more," suggesting deeper engagement with challenging questions is still lacking.

In Year 12, a student preparing for SACs left several textbook exercises unfinished and tended to avoid unfamiliar exam-style problems, sticking instead to previously attempted material.

Meanwhile, in Year 7 maths, difficulty arose when the finer details of rearranging equations were skipped—this meant confusion persisted with multi-step processes.

The urge to stay in comfort zones led to missed opportunities for growth.

Recent Achievements

A Newport tutor recently noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who, after weeks of getting stuck on factorisation by completing the square, can now confidently solve those problems without prompting.

Another high schooler used to avoid asking about unclear homework but this week explained exactly what she didn't understand from last lesson's logarithms and worked through extra practice until it clicked.

In a younger session, Ellie (Year 5) showed real initiative—she arrived eager to tackle new concepts and demonstrated clear understanding by asking focused questions about what the problems were really asking.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Deepti has been working with my daughter on her year 9 Maths this year and we have seen a great improvement in both her skill level and her confidence. Deepti is very reliable, friendly and professional and I can highly recommend her skills as a tutor.

Dion is actually excited about Maths again and told me the other day I really like Maths now, after spending the majority of this year hating it and feeling down on himself because he just couldn't understand some of the strands and considered himself to be really bad at it, even though his results in NAPLAN and school reports did not reflect this, it was just that he had lost all confidence. So we are so excited for him, that he's gained that confidence back and he thoroughly looks forward to Nav coming every week. So just after 2 weeks, I want to say how beyond happy we all are with Nav and Ezy Math as an entire organisation. Your correspondence has been very thorough and extremely helpful with lots of great tips and explanations. You've managed to turn this Maths learning experience from a negative one to a positive in just a couple of weeks. We can't wait to see what great success Dion can achieve with the help of Nav.

Gracie, she has been very accommodating and has had the patience to work with my son. Even though I have not met her in person, she seems to be very dedicated.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newport Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
