The most important thing an english tutor can do is to make their students curious about the subject they are studying and help them retain the knowledge they had learnt I think my strengths are that I have a lot of knowledge in subjects that some students have trouble in and I can further expand that knowledge so that each student gets to…

Inside Nilma NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Mehar worked on converting between decimals and fractions using place value, as well as adding and subtracting proper fractions on a number line.

Year 10 student Gavin tackled graphing exponential and logarithmic functions by exploring transformations, and also practiced anti-differentiation techniques with step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alexander focused on kinematics—specifically constant acceleration problems—and applied concepts of forces on inclined planes in preparation for his physics exam.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, one student relied heavily on their CAS calculator for data linearisation, which masked gaps in setting up variation statements by hand. As a tutor noted, "he used the calculator but couldn't explain the process without it."

A Year 7 student repeatedly avoided writing personal notes during area and perimeter lessons, depending solely on teacher handouts—this led to confusion with units and formulas later in revision.

Meanwhile, incomplete homework and missing school tasks left another Year 8 student underprepared for probability problems; their folder was missing key worksheets when we checked together.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nilma North recently noticed some real growth across several students. One high school student who previously struggled with direct and inverse variation became much more comfortable after working through targeted examples—she now sets up trig ratio equations independently and navigates both scientific and CAS calculators confidently.

Another senior, Gavin, was able to expand polynomials and use the factor theorem on his own, showing a big leap from earlier sessions where he hesitated with these concepts.

Meanwhile, a primary student, Omita, has started explaining his reasoning out loud for tricky area questions instead of guessing quietly, marking a shift toward real independence.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I have been meaning to email but time got away. Hazel is loving Rabiba! She's just perfect for her. In fact when we discussed extending the time to two hours in a week or so Hazel agreed instantly. I was in shock. We are all very happy with her so far. She's very reliable and polite.

Carol has been great with Sarah and as you said it takes a few months to start seeing an impact., but Sarah understands her and relates well to Carol.

Nandi is fantastic and Izzy has developed a great relationship with her. She is a treasure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bass Coast Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Angela of the Cross Primary School.
