The goal of a tutor is to help the students gain confidence in their subject and help the student with their grades. It is important a tutor is able to help a student gain enjoyment from the subject so that they are inspired and happy to continue to study when the tutor is not around. My greatest strengths are in tutoring English. I am able to…

I think the most important things for a tutor is to make sure the student knows how there education will be valuable for adulthood. Also for tutors to be able to adapt for there students needs and learning styles, and also make sure the lessons are a mixture of tutors teaching and students asking and answering questions. I think I am reliable,…

I think being kind and ensuring that the student is enjoying learning at all times is the most important thing. If the students head is not in it it's important for a tutor to go at their pace. I am patient and adapt well to a students learning pace. I am thorough and will put in the extra work to ensure a student is fully across their content…

Often if students are seeking tutoring, they are struggling or in a place of doubt about their abilities. Providing a comfortable, safe environment where students can feel reassured about their own abilities is so important. I know before I developed a passion for mathematics especially, I struggled with and detested the subject. As soon as I…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be patient. Everyone learns at their own pace, and it can be frustrating for a student when they cannot quite grasp a tricky idea. It takes patience and understanding to help that student make positive progress. I believe that my communication skills are my greatest strength as a…

As clichĂ© as it sounds, I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not give up on the student. Patience and persistence is key to finding what allows a student to succeed. Likewise, being able to adapt is very important to a tutor. Knowing how to change the way you teach a student can be very valuable for their…

Give them the resources to be their best student. Rather than just giving them the answer outright, set up a pathway for them to solve their problem themselves. I'm a very patient person, I think I've learned from past 'bad' tutors that patience is key to the student enjoying the session. I also consider myself to be creative with solutions if the…

Confidence. I believe from past experience that once a child has gained some confidence in a particular subject then learning becomes more fun and interesting. Local Reviews

I am happy to report that we are happy with Adams' tutoring.
Olga, North Beach

Inside North BeachTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Paige worked through converting fractions to decimals and percentages, and practiced multiplying numbers with decimals for improved calculation accuracy.

For Year 9, Benji focused on finding equations of linear graphs and explored the relationship between parallel and perpendicular lines using coordinate geometry examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ella tackled compound interest problems with multiple compounding periods, then reviewed surds basics to reinforce algebraic manipulation skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly did not complete set homework and struggled with identifying midpoints and non-linear correlations in coordinate geometry, leading to missed opportunities for targeted practice.

In Year 10, messy written work—especially skipping the step-by-step layout of equations—meant sign errors in algebra went unnoticed until reviewing answers ("doesn't write down the equations and doesn't understand the equations fully").

For a Year 6 learner, worded problems caused hesitation; when confused, they guessed instead of showing working, making it hard to spot misunderstandings.

During a senior session on tree diagrams (Year 12), confusion about wording led to mistakes on test questions that remained uncorrected without timely revision.

Recent Achievements

A North Beach tutoring session saw one high school student, initially anxious about compound interest, become noticeably more at ease—by the end he could clearly explain both interests without prompting.

Another secondary student who previously hesitated to tackle complex trigonometry questions began independently identifying SOH CAH TOA and solved problems with much less guidance than before.

Meanwhile, a primary student who usually waited for every instruction started finishing her homework independently almost entirely during the lesson, even expressing delight at how much she accomplished in that time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Connor was great and has put Indigo on a great pathway for working independently with her maths.

Kerry helped Ella with her confidence and she did really well with her math test. Her scores have been going up.

Jaz and Emily seem to be connecting well and we are happy with how things are progressing to date.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Karrinyup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Grace School.
