It is so important for tutors to adapt their method of teaching to the way the student learns. Every student not only has different needs and difficulties, but learns concepts differently. It is extremely important to regularly re-evaluate the student's objectives. Modifying your approach as a tutor to make the student feel comfortable and…

What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a healthy and suitable learning environment. One that motivates students to learn and to be able to confidently apply the knowledge they are taught both in and outside the classroom. Also since students are more likely to do better when they feel encouraged and…

I think the most important thing I can do for a student is really just build their foundational understanding of the content. With a strong foundational understanding the students can be more confident and creative in their application in the concepts. I have two main strengths as a tutor. In general, I aim to build confidence and self-belief in a student in order to be independently successful. I find that most students are capable of understanding and learning difficult topics but a limited belief in their abilities prevents them from performing to their best ability. Available at any time. I feel I can relate and have fun with a…

I believe building a relationship with the student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student, as it allows the tutor to recognize that each student has their own unique learning styles. These can only be identified during a session when a rapport between the student and tutor is established, and once this connection is made…

Besides teaching concepts and helping students solve problems, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to motivate students. As I believe, unlike school teachers, tutors can give students individualised attention. They have more time with their students to talk about what challenges they are facing about subjects or reflect on where…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence in their subjects. By clarifying and helping them practice concepts that they have learnt at school, taking tutoring lessons builds their confidence in answering questions in school and during exams. Alicia, North Bondi

Inside North BondiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Lily focused on improving her multiplication tables and division skills, using Mathletics activities for extra practice.

In Year 9, Josh worked through algebraic equations and indices revision in preparation for upcoming tests, while also strengthening his understanding of rates and ratios.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mia tackled non-right angled trigonometry by applying the Sine and Cosine Rules to triangle problems, and reviewed true bearings as part of exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled with bringing required materials to sessions, as noted when "he did not bring the past papers that I had previously given him," which slowed exam practice and meant key mistakes went unreviewed.

In a Year 10 lesson, anxiety about time led to incomplete checking of answers on financial math trial papers—several conversion errors were missed because the focus was on finishing quickly rather than accuracy.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student hesitated to attempt subtraction without finger-counting, often pausing mid-question, especially when numbers became larger or less familiar. This pattern left her unsure and frustrated during timed drills.

Recent Achievements

A North Bondi tutor noticed a real shift in Oliver, a high school student who came prepared with completed homework and took the initiative to identify where he needed help—after practicing simultaneous equations, he could tackle them without hesitation.

Another high schooler, Taiaroa, moved from struggling at the start of sessions to confidently using his notes to solve worded maths problems independently, showing much more focus and self-reliance than before.

In primary years, Ava began splitting non-whole numbers herself during addition tasks—something she'd previously hesitated to try—and finished all her questions without prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Reddam House, Bondi Campus.
