To prep beforehand about the context that will need to be discussed. It could help to reduce time consuming of figuring out the answers of questions as revision helps to memorise the topics and contents that will be discussed in the class. My strength is that I am a patience’s person which I don’t easily get irritated when peers keep asking…

Having empathy to relate with students as well as discipline. Especially discipline, to let students know that you have expectations for them and that they have to do their part whether it being assignments or pre-reading that you give, if they want to get better. I used to struggle in school for certain subjects, and had to have tutors as well.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to find out the student's learning method and try to adapt to that. Everyone learns differently and tutoring should be focused on helping the student in the best possible way that they can receive. I can easily adapt to new situations and environments which will help since every…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to develop an organic interest in the subject, where a student, of his own accord, picks up the topic and explores it. Larger goal remains that of the student being able to maximize their potential and develop confidence and self-belief. If a tutor can spark an interest where the…

A tutor should spend time to listen to the needs of the student and spend time to build the students confidence in their own ability. By being a listener and confidence builder, this can inspire the student to tackle challenging and difficult problems and questions therefore imparting not just academic skills but life skills as well. Knowledge of…

The most important part of being a tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. Listening is the most important thing a tutor can do for the student. Tutors cannot understand a student's requirements and expectations until they effectively give time to the student for communicating the same. However, listening alone does not suffice. It is a necessity for a tutor to establish rapport with their students. As a proponent of a theory in rapport for learners, it is important that the student and teacher must sense each other, sync in their teaching and learning process and experience an affirming positive experience while educating. Inside North FremantleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 Abbi focused on solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula and practiced factorising both monic and non-monic binomials.

In Year 10, Isabel worked through rationalising denominators with surd expressions and revisited simultaneous equations as part of her test revision.

Meanwhile, Year 5 Jimmy consolidated long division skills and completed unit conversions for distance using real-life word problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly skipped showing working in algebra, leading to small but costly errors: "she tends to skip ahead and miss out steps when solving long equations."

In Year 11 Methods, a lack of regular revision meant key content faded quickly—one tutor noted that "it was evident she hadn't been revising the class content," making problem-solving slower.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner often lost focus during longer sessions; he missed place value cues in conversions and struggled with essay introductions, especially when tired.

In Year 8 trigonometry, fear of initial mistakes led to hesitation rather than attempting unfamiliar problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in North Fremantle noticed Isabel's progress in Year 10 maths: after struggling with her last test (60%), she recently scored 81% on her exam, handling even the challenging worded problems with much less help than before.

In another session, Abbi, a high school student who used to rely heavily on prompts for factorising quadratics, is now able to solve standard quadratic equations independently and completes her simultaneous equations homework confidently.

Meanwhile, Jimmy in primary school—who was previously overwhelmed by long division and rounding—now works through these tasks almost entirely unaided and finished his latest body paragraph with correct structure on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Fremantle: Fremantle Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like North Fremantle Primary School.
