Explaining in the simplistic way that a student can understand. If you can not explain it in simple terms it means you do not understand it. The tutor should be patient and help the student understand. I am patient, easy going and quickly understand the problems that students face during their studies. I think communication is one of the most crucial skills. I believe every students, somehow, are capable of learning. So even though I don't have extraordinary skills to teach them, they will learn from my explanation. But I have to know where they are at the point of time to know exactly what and how I have to teach. Having an idea of what my…

While helping students learn is obviously important, the psychological and social aspects of tutoring are arguably much more important. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there for them. If a tutor chooses only to communicate with a student within the designated hour-long session, there is a good chance questions will be forgotten before the next session and eventually left unanswered. This is why a clear and uninterrupted communication line is valuable…

I consider a successful tutor to shape a student’s perspective towards education, and hence their schoolwork, to be a positive and enriching experience. In successful teaching, I believe the tutor should: 1) build a strong and personal relationship with the student; 2) listen and effectively communicate with the tutee, and their parents and…

It's the responsibility of a tutor to meet students where they are at. Tutors should come to learn the boundaries of what their students do and do not understand and create structure and context for pushing those boundaries to ultimately envelop the knowledge they need to succeed. This can sometimes mean "back-filling" missing knowledge or…

I consider patience to be the most important virtue in a tutor, setting small checkpoints between certain topics is a good strategy. A tutor should always pause and ask if the student has any questions or doubts about the concept. Local Reviews

Claudia was a great tutor, there was good communication from management and rates were reasonable. The service really helped my son in year 11 advanced maths. It helped me too that she came to our house so no need to drive anywhere.
KM, North Manly

Inside North ManlyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Emily worked through **differentiation rules** and trigonometric differentiation, then applied integration to calculate the area under curves, including finding areas of circle segments.

Year 12 student James focused on **sketching functions using calculus** and reviewed key trigonometric identities, along with practicing statistical calculations like mean and variance.

For a primary student in Year 4, Tom practised multiplication tables and tackled **larger multiplications for fluency** using quick recall strategies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling advanced calculus sometimes avoided checking formulas in their notes, instead "just guessing," which led to repeated mistakes and time lost reworking problems.

In Year 9 algebra, one student hesitated to articulate explanations for their answers, feeling unsure about how to express the steps they took—this slowed their progress in multi-part questions.

For a primary student dividing numbers under 100, calculations were often slowed when decimals appeared; this created uncertainty and extra requests for help.

Meanwhile, an HSC candidate left several homework exercises on quadratic roots incomplete, missing valuable feedback opportunities before class discussions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in North Manly noticed one high school student who, after initially struggling with the first topic of calculus, was confidently tackling a range of question types by the end of their session.

Another secondary student began to use textbook worked examples on her own for study—a big shift from previously waiting for step-by-step help.

In primary, one Year 6 learner who used to guess at time conversion problems was independently and accurately converting between seconds, minutes, and hours by lesson's end.

That same student completed all related questions without needing prompts.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I want to thank Ezy Maths Tutoring, as Joshua seems to have connected well with David and is working with his strengths. Already we are seeing a difference in the confidence of David to tackle his Maths and is being guided to see the areas that he is lacking instead of total self doubt of thinking that he knows nothing .

Sam has been an excellent, kind, understanding and patient tutor with Gabriella. Under his guidance she has made improvements in her outcomes and study habits in spite of her great difficulties with the subject. She had gone from a fail grade to a pass mark and has steadily applied herself more consistently to regular study thanks to Sam. We have nothing but praise for his abilities.

We really cannot speak highly enough of Conaire. He is communicative, polite, always on time, and most importantly, highly competent with maths. From their first meeting, Tim has enjoyed and benefited greatly from his tutoring and encouragement. On a scale of 1 to 10, Conaire rates a 10+ (with no exaggeration at all).

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Northern Beaches Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Kieran's Catholic Primary School.
