Firstly identifying the student's various strengths and areas of improvement is very significant to give a general idea of which topics to focus/skills on the most whilst teaching them. Another key area that a tutor should investigate further is the student's most effective way of learning specific concepts e.g. visual, written, auditory etc. A …

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a positive role model, and be someone to look up to, someone who can be relied upon for any academic issue. Inside North St MarysTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ella focused on solving linear equations and worked through applications of simple and compound interest using step-by-step practice questions.

In Year 9, William tackled algebraic techniques, including simplifying algebraic expressions with like and unlike terms, as well as expanding and factorising brackets.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student reviewed probability concepts such as complementary events and tree diagrams, working through textbook exercises to reinforce understanding of experimental versus theoretical probability.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was an issue for a Year 9 student, as noted: "William must complete his homework that I give him each week. He has not been doing homework at all," which limited opportunities to consolidate class strategies and identify areas needing clarification.

In Year 8 algebra, messy or incomplete working also surfaced; one tutor wrote, "She needs to make sure that she is showing full and organised working out as it allows a mistake to be spotted easily."

Meanwhile, in Year 10 trigonometry, skipping steps when choosing ratios led to confusion and hidden calculation errors—slowing progress on challenging problems.

Recent Achievements

One North St Marys tutor noted that a Year 11 student who previously relied on graphing software now completes classwork on time and confidently tackles fundamental operations by hand, showing real independence.

In Year 9, another student started asking for clarification when concepts were unclear—shifting from guessing to actively seeking help—which led to him accurately using formulas in problem-solving.

Meanwhile, a primary schooler named Divya, who once needed step-by-step support, can now solve surface area questions unaided after targeted practice. Last session, she finished all assigned problems without needing prompts.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Since my daughter has been tutored by Ezy Math, she has improved significantly. At the end of last year she failed the yearly test and was ranked near the bottom of her year. Now after just 3 months of tutoring , she has achieved the highest mark in her class in the  half yearly exam. This has been a great boast to her confidence in addition to a great academic achievement. She knows now that she has the ability to do well in maths. Jessica is always very well prepared for all the sessions. During this time we went away on holidays and missed 3 weeks of school. Prior to leaving Jessica covered all the topics the school was doing to ensure that she did not get behind. We are extremely happy with Ezy Math Tutoring and  highly recommend them.

I was just writing to let you know that I got better than the grade I hoped for, so everything turned out great! I wanted to say thank-you for all of your help. I would not have been able to do this without you. Thanks so much.

After two months our son's marks in year 10 maths went from the fourties to the seventies. I think most tutors know their maths but our tutor is a wonderful communicator and talented educator whom we wish to retain through the HSC.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Marys Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Marys North Public School.
