Being a source of advice and support in a student's scholarly journey. I am approachable and non-judgemental so students can ask me for help on school topics that they may not want to ask their teachers or parents due to anxiety. I use learning styles that complement the student I am teaching, as opposed to a "one size fits all"…

I believe that one of the most important things is recognising students' needs and personalising their experience such that it is most beneficial for them. It is important to be empathetic and open-minded to a range of learning styles as a tutor, in order to assist in their academic journies. I also believe that a tutor should maintain a strong,…

Give them time and space. I believe these two aspects are the most important thing we can give students but understanding how to manage these two factors as a tutor we give the private space for them to develop as well as provide them with help when they require us. I am very patient and outgoing, therefore it is easy for students to ask me…

Provide answers for all questions for any student viable, whilst stimulating academical growth by encouraging different solutions to topics where possible. I also believe tutors must be generous in content distribution, but also are required to be critical when needed, for the ultimate enhancement of the student(s) Although my academics during…

Helping them to develop their own learning style, or styles, to perform in a variety of circumstances is one of the most critical things a tutor can impart on a student. Examinations and content will never be delivered in the exact same way, so providing students with the means to navigate the ambiguities of examination and focus purely on the…

Set them on the right path. Helping them to understand concepts and develop skills (rather than just doing things for them) will mean that they can go on to use these skills themselves. This is very important for exam-taking. Communication. I ask for their input and check that they understand what I'm saying. I am patient and will explain a…

I think it is most important for a tutor to make the learning experience enjoyable for a student, because in my experience even the worst subject with the most innane course material can be made much better with a tutor that you actually like, that likes the subject, and presents it clearly. The most important thing that a tutor can teach his student is 'how to learn'. Patience is inherent to my personality and I find that this is the single most valuable…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is help them understand concepts that may seem impossible to them because they can then view learning in a completely different viewpoint. Inside North TurramurraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Lucas practised simple division and tackled worded problems to strengthen his foundational numeracy.

For Year 11, Sophia focused on normal distribution and worked through her areas of difficulty using trial HSC exam papers.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James reviewed the balance of payments, covering both current and capital accounts, and explored how exchange rates are affected by demand and supply for the Australian dollar, using past HSC short-answer questions for practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student working on calculus struggled to set out homework clearly, which made it difficult to identify where his thinking broke down—"his understanding of calculus & his homework setting out" was a tutor's observation.

In Year 11 Economics, one student often skipped writing formulas for opportunity cost and labour force participation rate, so errors crept in unnoticed when revising calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student avoided showing division steps in maths problems; as the tutor noted, "divisions and reading questions" required extra attention because missing working led to repeated confusion over basic procedures.

Recent Achievements

One North Turramurra tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 12 student who, after struggling to tell apart the different balance of payments accounts in economics, now accurately distinguishes between them and explains what drives deficits or surpluses.

In Year 11 maths, another student had trouble with fractions on a previous test but recently solved fraction problems independently, showing the extra practice paid off.

Meanwhile, a primary school student who used to rush through questions has started pausing to read each one carefully before answering—a noticeable change in approach during recent sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Ives Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Turramurra North Public School.
