Local Reviews

Duane is friendly, excellent at communicating with his student, and he is also punctual. Most of all, Duane has a lot of knowledge about Math. He was really able to help Arabella with her Maths questions. Also, Duane is patient with Arabella, he is able to adjust his explanation according to how Arabella will be able understand the Math problems. Nevertheless, Duane is the right tutor for Arabella. He is one of the gems in your company. In his second time coming back to tutor Arabella, we can say that we're satisfied and very happy, and he is highly recommended.

Inside North WardTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Isaac focused on writing and naming ionic and covalent compounds in Chemistry, as well as balancing chemical equations.

For Year 10, Eve worked through all her recent trigonometry questions—clarifying errors from a past exam—and also tackled problems involving similarity and congruence in triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Sophia practised converting decimals to fractions (and vice versa) alongside basic division skills, using visual aids for clearer understanding.

Recent Challenges

Repeatedly missed homework deadlines in mathematics led to extra time spent catching up on basics like division and factorising instead of progressing with new topics.

In Year 11 Chemistry, a student struggled to locate the most updated version of an assessment during a lesson—this organisation lapse delayed meaningful feedback and limited revision.

A Year 10 English learner focused on cosmetic changes but did not respond to advice about connecting body paragraphs to their thesis: Sentences weren't cohesive or linked back, as noted after a draft review. This left ideas feeling disconnected despite multiple drafts.

Recent Achievements

One North Ward tutor noticed that a Year 10 student, Eve, shifted from being unsure about trigonometry to independently identifying where she went wrong on her last test and correcting those mistakes during the session.

In Year 11 English, Jacinta arrived with all her body paragraphs drafted and brought feedback from both her teacher and previous tutoring sessions, then used that input to revise and present an improved draft without prompting.

Meanwhile, in a primary maths lesson, Sophia—who previously needed step-by-step help—tackled division problems solo for the first time and asked for more practice at the end of the session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Sophie is very happy with Jane as a tutor.  Jane is extremely diligent - we have the complication of the UK syllabi and Jane has taken a lot of trouble in her own time, to check up on what Sophie should be learning !

Hello and thank you for your email. We are happy with Philip's progress in these few weeks as you suggest I am sure more time is needed for him to be more confident . We are also happy with his tutor he is very well spoken, polite and gets on well with my son so far.

Thanks Gene, so far, Jamie's response has been very good.  He has had 2 lessons to date, as last week was cancelled at our request (he was away on camp). Jamie has responded very well to Eshan, who's approach is unassuming, gentle, but persuasive and constructive.  Jamie actually looks forward to spending time with Eshan to teach him his Maths strategies. We look forward to seeing Eshan again next week. Thanks also for the newsletter.  I have to say that I think your supportive written material is very useful!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Flinders Street—or at your child's school (with permission), like Townsville Grammar School.
