Instead of focusing on traditional way of teaching, a teacher should be able to spark curiosity. Instead of telling them to write, teacher should tell them how writing makes you think critically. Additionally, teachers should understand that every student is unique and they might have different learning methods which suits them. Education system…

I believe a tutor should possess excellent organisational, communication skills and good subject knowledge and Curriculum knowledge. It is important to understand the difficulty students go through in learning a particular subject. As a tutor we need to be patient. Above all, its the impact on children; we could be the reason a student develops a…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is to build a strong personal relationship with the student. Regularly interact with them and get to know areas in which they need extra support. It is important that we as tutors listen and communicate early and often with parents. It is important to inform the parents about any knowledge gaps…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help students stop fearing what they don’t know. Once that fear is gone, they can focus on real learning instead of just chasing marks. A tutor’s role is to guide them to see mistakes as part of the process, build their confidence, and make knowledge something they’re curious about rather…

It's not just about giving answers, but about encouraging curiosity and helping them develop problem-solving skills. Tutoring to me is so much more than simply teaching the subject matter to a student. I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to build the student's confidence and faith in him/herself. Inside Norton SummitTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alyssia reviewed titrations in chemistry, focusing on molar ratios and rearranging equations like n = m/M and C = n/V, as well as galvanic cells and balancing redox equations for her exam.

In Year 10, Sam worked on sketching linear graphs by finding x- and y-intercepts using the gradient-intercept method, then practised identifying equations of lines through various methods including calculating gradients.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emily revised univariate statistics by exploring mean, median, mode, range, and began working with interquartile range using sample data sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tended to rely on previous answer formats when solving algebra problems; as one tutor noted, "he looked back at old examples instead of working through new reasoning steps."

In a Year 12 chemistry session, the student was hesitant to attempt the written discussion portion of an assignment and avoided "thinking outside the box" when applying concepts in unfamiliar situations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student was sometimes easily distracted during sessions, making it difficult to focus and set clear goals for what to cover next. This meant valuable lesson time was lost regaining focus or reviewing known methods.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Norton Summit noticed Alyssia, a senior student, moved from needing guidance on titration equations to independently solving even complex questions with mixed molar ratios by the end of her session.

Alessandro, in Year 10, showed a real shift—he now arrives knowing exactly which maths concepts he's struggling with and directs the session by asking focused questions rather than waiting passively.

Meanwhile, Lucy in Year 6 used to hesitate when facing new statistics topics but recently began tackling practice problems on her own once shown the method, showing more initiative with each session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We are delighted with Dexter. She and Carly get along very well and she makes the tutoring process seamless and pleasant. Carly is responding very well to Dexter and they've already and good progress.

We have been very happy with Tako and feel she has really assisted our children to gain greater confidence with their math work and to work through math steps carefully, which was our key goal. We have also been impressed with the organisation of the tutoring through your services.

I spoke to you a couple of weeks ago about a tutor for my son Gabriele. You organised for Monica to come to the house and she is beyond a perfect fit. Gabriele was thrilled about the lesson, even though he was nervous at first, and can't wait until his next session, so thank you!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Norton Summit Primary School.
