Encouragement is the most important quality an english tutor should have. Doubt is unfortunately a huge negative factor when trying to learn so when a tutor shows a true belief to a student, confidence sparks & can fuel motivation. I believe a tutor is meant to empower their student to success By personal experience, I’ve had both, a tutors who…

Every student is different and every student has different ways of understanding concepts. Some might learn them easily via a practical approach while others focus on the theory first. Understanding the weak points of a student and focusing on the strength of a student is very important for an english tutor to know. One of my strengths is a strong…

I aim to instil students with effective learning strategies. People aren’t taught how to effectively learn and study, and often they can feel lost. I firmly believe that understanding the best learning approach for oneself is just as important as understanding the schoolwork. I pride myself on being patient - I understand that everyone learns…

The most crucial things an english tutor can do for a student are academic supervision, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these can possibly redefine a class, subject, or school more generally for a learner. A high level of energy and patience are two of my strongest assets. I strongly rely on these traits when I'm…

A tutor should firstly be encouraging; to be more confident in their studies, for them to work hard and try their best, and to inspire a love of learning. Secondly, it is imperative to be understanding. Every student is unique, with varying goals, learning styles, and abilities, so learning should be tailored to each individual to ensure every…

One of the best qualities of an english tutor is to create a personal connection to your student. Furthermore I am a…

Inside NowergupTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob practised expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions using the distributive property, then combined like terms for more efficient solutions.

Year 9's Aanya worked on solving simultaneous equations by eliminating variables through subtraction and applying substitution to find unknowns.

For Year 10, Ben tackled linear equation word problems involving wages and income, focusing on setting up and solving equations from real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's written working in algebra was often incomplete—he skipped showing steps in equations with coefficients, which hid sign errors. This made backtracking harder and slowed progress on new material.

A Year 11 student tackling calculus relied heavily on mental calculation rather than pen and paper, especially when differentiating; this led to confusion with more complex equations and increased error rates.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student lost her homework for the week, leaving some planned revision unfinished before the next session.

In another instance, a Year 4 learner hesitated to start composite shape problems due to low confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Nowergup tutor noticed a high school student who used to skip writing out their steps in maths now consistently breaks down equations on paper, making fewer calculation errors and solving linear equations with coefficients and fractions independently.

Another secondary student, after struggling with simultaneous equations, can now confidently use elimination and substitution methods to find both variables—she even tackled questions involving tricky fractions without hesitation.

Meanwhile, a younger student has started setting her own goals at the start of each session; this week she stuck to those targets, racing ahead on problem-solving tasks and revisiting previous challenges to solve them unaided.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Patrick is a wonderful asset to your company.  It pleases me so much that Patrick has a wonderful understanding of my Son capabilities with in only 5 lessons. Thank you for sending Patrick to us.

Mike has been great and very patient with Chelsea.  Most importantly Chelsea is feeling comfortable with him and starting to open up and ask questions. He is also very organised and we are really happy.

We are very happy with Baily. She is very competent in math, but is also a very good teacher.  She makes learning fun and the boys' relationship with her is developing well. As a person, Baily has a lovely manner about her, is very respectful, but confident.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarkson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like East Butler Primary School.
