I believe the most important thing is to allow the student to share the same passion and interest for the subject, since that is the biggest factor for inciting motivation within the student to keep going. I am very patient, so if a student isn't fully understanding a topic even after multiple explanations, I wouldn't get frustrated, but instead…

Being there for a student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Whilst tutors are there to help guide a student's learning progress, they should also present themselves as a supportive friend. The relationship between a student and tutor is important and aspects like giving general advice, and helping students during…

make sure the tutors are patient and goes on a pace that is comfortable for the student. the most important thing to consider as a tutor is that each student is different and has their own way of learning, and its our job to understand and match their skillset, not the other way around. I am patient and my main focus is on building fundamentals,…

A good teacher can make a good difference in a student's life. A tutor can also give good guidance to the student, letting them aware of the good and bad things about life. A teacher not only teaches a subject to the student but also builds a certain part of the student's character. A teacher also builds a student's future, if a student is…

A tutor should focus more on the foundation of the student and focus more on the basics of the subject. Also, corelating the subject with real-life examples could make learning easier and more interesting. I believe I have the right amount of patience required to tutor students. I think there are two main things a tutor can do for a student; maintain high grades and garner a positive attitude. It is imperative as a tutor's job to help the student maintain or achieve high grades in the particular area of study. However, high academic standards are not simply enough. It is also important for a tutor to build up an…

One of the most crucial things a tutor can do, in my opinion, is to provide a secure, encouraging environment where a student can ask whatever questions they may be afraid or embarrassed to ask. My patience is perhaps one of my best qualities as a tutor. I don't mind taking the time someone needs to fully comprehend something or providing repeated…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. Being a friend! Most students whom I’ve thought have confessed they gained more knowledge from me as they considered me to be more than a teacher as I had a great understanding from their point of view and tried to do more in class and reduce workload at home to balance their lives and education. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen. Is there a way the student feels they learn better? Perhaps through pictures instead of words? Is the student not focussed and extremely tired? Would it be more productive to learn outside in the backyard or reschedule for another day? Students are young, but they are young adults.…

Inside NunawadingTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Zoe worked on advanced index laws and tackled worded questions involving indices, as well as practising complex linear equations with rearranging and problem solving.

Year 8 Abeeha focused on mastering perimeters and areas of composite shapes, learning new area formulas for rectangles and triangles, plus converting between square and cubic units.

Meanwhile, Year 4 Jacob strengthened his addition and subtraction skills using a variety of hands-on activities like mathematical mazes and matching games to boost confidence with double-digit numbers.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 maths student frequently skipped writing out working for worded problems, making it harder to catch counting errors and visualize solutions; as noted, "needs to work on writing out the working out more."

In Year 10 science, difficulty recalling terms like "aorta" stemmed from not keeping organized vocabulary lists, which led to hesitancy during labelling tasks.

A senior student tackling exam-style extended-response questions in maths relied heavily on referring back to notes instead of attempting recall first—this slowed progress and limited retention.

These habits left students retracing steps or second-guessing answers instead of building confidence through independent practice.

Recent Achievements

In Year 8 maths, Zoe moved from hesitating with linear equations to completing every fluency question on her revision sheet ahead of a test, showing far more independence than before.

Meanwhile, Kaylee (Year 10) demonstrated a new ability to use her calculator strategically during algebraic problems and integrated various tones into argumentative writing—something she hadn't attempted previously.

On the primary side, Jacob now works out multi-digit addition by carefully lining up his numbers on paper instead of guessing, and he completed all regrouping addition questions correctly this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nunawading Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nunawading Christian College - Primary.
