I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to have a patient and supportive attitude. and to take the time to understand each student's needs. As a tutor, it is important to understand the unique needs of each student to ensure they feel supported and confident in their learning. My strengths as a tutor are patience and adaptability.…

I believe an essential aspect to include in tutoring is helping students to develop metacognitive and study skills. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

To be there to support the student academically and psychologically. Tutoring is a more private setting than teaching in school, I will get to know more about the students and connect with them on a deeper level. This enables me to assist them on their journey of growing up, helping them with their study and listen to their struggles if they are…

There are two most essential things that a tutor should do for a student: motivation and guidance. A student only find a tutor when he finds difficulties in learning a subject and is not confident in taking the exams. Therefore, the first thing that each tutor needs to do is to encourage the students to study and face their own problems.…

I believe one of the most vital things that tutors can do is alter their teaching type based on different students' abilities and progression over time. I think this helps differentiate tutoring from normal schooling as normal schooling is generalised for all students and doesn't cater for individual students' strengths and weaknesses. I believe…

In my experience as a student when my tutors understood my problems and tried to solve them was the thing that stayed with me the longest, also tutors that are your tutors when your studying but friends when you just talk to them. The most important things a tutor can do are build a student’s confidence, create a safe space for questions, and teach in a way that suits their learning style. I know how competitive and burdensome academics can be, especially for students in high achieving environments ( e.g Melbourne high), so I believe being a pillar of understanding and…

The relationship between me and the student is very essential. It is utmost important that I ensure that both the student and the parent is happy with the way I teach and how they see me, therefore my first impression is extremely. I believe the most important thing is to allow the student to share the same passion and interest for the subject, since that is the biggest factor for inciting motivation within the student to keep going. I am very patient, so if a student isn't fully understanding a topic even after multiple explanations, I wouldn't get frustrated, but instead…

My most important things that I would do for a student would be to adapt to the way that they learn rather than using a one-size-fits-all method as every student learns differently and does things in a certain way in order for them to succeed. Another critical point is developing a mindset and motivation that focuses on learning and then…

Inside NunawadingTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Zoe worked on advanced index laws and tackled worded questions involving indices, as well as practising complex linear equations with rearranging and problem solving.

Year 8 Abeeha focused on mastering perimeters and areas of composite shapes, learning new area formulas for rectangles and triangles, plus converting between square and cubic units.

Meanwhile, Year 4 Jacob strengthened his addition and subtraction skills using a variety of hands-on activities like mathematical mazes and matching games to boost confidence with double-digit numbers.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 maths student frequently skipped writing out working for worded problems, making it harder to catch counting errors and visualize solutions; as noted, "needs to work on writing out the working out more."

In Year 10 science, difficulty recalling terms like "aorta" stemmed from not keeping organized vocabulary lists, which led to hesitancy during labelling tasks.

A senior student tackling exam-style extended-response questions in maths relied heavily on referring back to notes instead of attempting recall first—this slowed progress and limited retention.

These habits left students retracing steps or second-guessing answers instead of building confidence through independent practice.

Recent Achievements

In Year 8 maths, Zoe moved from hesitating with linear equations to completing every fluency question on her revision sheet ahead of a test, showing far more independence than before.

Meanwhile, Kaylee (Year 10) demonstrated a new ability to use her calculator strategically during algebraic problems and integrated various tones into argumentative writing—something she hadn't attempted previously.

On the primary side, Jacob now works out multi-digit addition by carefully lining up his numbers on paper instead of guessing, and he completed all regrouping addition questions correctly this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nunawading Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nunawading Christian College - Primary.
