The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspire and motivate. While these seem like simple elements, in successfully doing so, the tutor has essentially altered the learning experiences for the student from that moment onwards. The student is then able to develop their confidence in their subjects, push to achieve their goals,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is enjoy helping the student. If they don't enjoy tutoring I feel like they lack motivation and it feels like they don't want to be there. This makes the student not want to achieve well in there studies. I find that I am very strong in communication skills. I am able to explain complex concepts in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is the confidence and support they provide. As a tutor, it is important I ensure the student feels supported and confident with their studies. I want them to know that I too was in the same position and that no obstacle is too big to overcome. The main thing I want them to realise is that they…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a good listener and understand what is student’s first priority. As an OP 1 receiver, based on my past experience, breaking down assignment criteria to meet the requirements and interpreting the concept clearly can significantly improve the student’s grade. I can teach…

The most important things to me is to engage, motivate and involve the student with their study. Too many students suffer from sidelining and taking a backseat in education due to a number of reasons. Hence, being able to link a student's passion by showing how education is not a blocker but rather an enabler for their curiousities and wonders is…

I consider encouragement and patience as the most important things a tutor can do for a student. As school can be stressful, being supportive and persistent toward the student is beneficial and can make them more receptive to wanting to learn. Having patience is also very important for tutors as some students may not understand a concept and the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be well aware of what he/she is teaching and must be an expert on it. Without this it's a waste of both a student's and teacher's time and money. For this I personally need to get prepared by learning teaching materials and technics at home before I start a lesson. A tutor should make the student feel supported, understood, and confident. The most important thing a tutor must do for a student is listening. To me, there's a big difference between listening and hearing someone. Hearing is simply the ability to use your ears. Inside NundahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Liam focused on mastering completing the square for quadratic equations and practiced graphing parabolas by identifying their turning points.

Year 10 student Sarah worked through calculating mean, variance, and standard deviation for simple datasets, as well as tackling introductory probability questions using real-life examples.

For primary support, Year 3 student Vivaan spent time perfecting three-letter word pronunciation and improved penmanship by carefully forming numbers and letters during both English and Mathematics activities.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, a student repeatedly skipped writing working for quadratic problems, which made it hard to spot small errors—"he missed a sign mistake when completing the square," noted one tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling statistics relied heavily on her calculator but struggled to recall formulas independently during problem-solving.

In Year 5, messy written work and scattered layout meant answers in number patterns weren't always clear, despite correct reasoning.

After a tough physics exam, one senior student's confidence dipped; he hesitated to attempt unfamiliar questions, sometimes leaving them blank under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nundah noticed some great shifts lately: a Year 10 student who used to freeze on "completing the square" questions now answers every one without errors and finishes all tasks within the session.

Meanwhile, a senior student who'd often guess blindly at multiple-choice physics problems has begun methodically eliminating impossible options before deciding—showing real growth in problem-solving.

On the primary side, one young learner who once hesitated to speak up now confidently writes numbers up to 40 and eagerly joins conversations, even asking for guidance when practicing handwriting instead of staying quiet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nundah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mary MacKillop College.
