It is vital, especially in year 12, for a tutor to unlock a student's full potential in a certain subject, in order to ensure that they perform confidently in their exams, fully knowing that they are doing the best that they can, and have utilized all the available resources. Dedication to a student i.e. going above and beyond to cater to a…

One of the most important things for a tutor to do is genuinely listen to their student. Understanding what their actual concern is, and having a grasp on what they need help with the most, in my opinion, is what can most likely lead to the success of a student's learning. In addition, assuring that it is okay for the student to have a try, even…

The imperative role of a tutor is to listen and care for the student's concerns. When you are 1 on 1 with a student, they should feel comfortable to admit the academic challenges they are facing and trust that you are equipped to adapt to their needs. They should look forward to their interactions with you, as if they enjoy the tutoring sessions,…

The most important thing for a tutor is not to provide the answer but rather to assist the student in reaching the solution. As a tutor, I will not provide the solution for students or instruct them on assignments. My intention will be to release ideas and process them to attain the correct outcome. Through this method, students will learn how to…

I consider the following as critical things a tutor can do for a student: - Ability to empathise with the student. This helps with connecting with the students, and creates a safe learning space for them - Ability to listen. In the classroom settings, some teachers are unable to connect with all the students due to the large number and rigid…

I think listening is the most important thing that anyone can do. Jumping to conclusions doesn't help anyone, it only creates more misunderstanding. Getting good grades is great, but the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to open their mind to new perspectives, and help lead students to a mind of their own. English is a beautiful subject, but it can often seem like certain people are just naturally gifted with understanding this course. I believe that those who are struggling…

Firstly, I think it is very important for a tutor to build the confidence a student has in their own abilities. Secondly, is presenting multiple ways to learn something/solve a problem. Inside OrmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia worked on solving simultaneous linear equations and finding gradients from y = mx + c, using graph sketches to visualise relationships.

Year 10 student Jacob revised completing the square and factorisation by grouping, then practised graphing parabolas using both techniques.

For Year 11, Sophie tackled index and exponential equations alongside revision of logarithm laws, focusing on simplifying complex expressions step-by-step.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working was hard to follow: he often left out brackets and negatives, making it difficult to check for sign errors in factorising quadratics.

For a Year 11 probability task, another needed extra reminders to bring the right notes and practice sheets—forgetting materials slowed revision on conditional events.

A Year 10 student tackling simultaneous equations sometimes hesitated to show steps, especially with negatives; this meant time was lost fixing hidden calculation slips rather than moving ahead.

In senior calculus, over-reliance on notes for derivatives delayed progress when formulas weren't immediately at hand.

Recent Achievements

One Ormond tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to freeze when asked to solve simultaneous equations now working through them out loud, checking each step rather than staying silent and stuck.

In a recent high school session, a Year 12 student who had been avoiding surds altogether managed to simplify several on her own and even asked for extra examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once rushed and guessed at multiplication facts slowed down during practice, carefully double-checking answers before moving on. At the end of his lesson, he finished all ten problems without errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Rowena is lovely and Sam feels comfortable with her which is great as he is quite shy.

All is going really well with tutor Sam , he is excellent and very good with my son Dominic.

We believe if it wasn't for Stuart; Paige would not have achieved her most recent result.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bentleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yesodei HaTorah College - Ormond Campus. Alternatively lessons can be had at Ezy Math Tutoring Ormond, 5/596 North Rd, Ormond, 3204, VIC, 03 7073 7122
