The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is know the subject well and enjoy the subject that they are teaching, as this always results in better student engagement. It is also important for a tutor to be perceptive of the students strengths and weaknesses in order to help the student reach their potential. My greatest strength is…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel heard and valued. Giving them full attention and creating a space where they feel comfortable enough to ask questions and even make mistakes allows real learning to happen. I focus on building a personal connection so they trust the process, while also guiding them to reflect,…

I believe it's important a tutor offers patience and understanding to the student if they are struggling to understand something. As it doesn't help the student if they feel you're getting frustrated at them. I'm good at explaining how to do an example in various ways to ensure that the student can understand. Some of these can be unique to each…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is create a judgement free zone. We all know the feeling when we have asked someone for help and despite not understanding their clarification say that we do and that everything is fine. A judgement free zone is a space where students will ask questions until they are certain that they…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and independence as a learner. The most important thing the tutor can do is create a safe trustworthy environment. I believe a tutor is not sole to enhance the academic excellence of a student, but to help the student to develop personal skills in their character and morals as well. In my opinion, a teacher is the bridge between a child and their growth to become an adult. The personal character traits, morals and ethics they learn from school and teachers…

I believe, a teacher should make a learning setting that is helpful and encouraging so that students can feel free to ask their questions even nth time. Not all students learn in the same pace, tutor should adjust how they teach to meet the goals and pace of each student. Lastly, a tutor should give a student confidence, help them think…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is bring a genuine enjoyment for the subject. A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

Inside OrmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia worked on solving simultaneous linear equations and finding gradients from y = mx + c, using graph sketches to visualise relationships.

Year 10 student Jacob revised completing the square and factorisation by grouping, then practised graphing parabolas using both techniques.

For Year 11, Sophie tackled index and exponential equations alongside revision of logarithm laws, focusing on simplifying complex expressions step-by-step.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working was hard to follow: he often left out brackets and negatives, making it difficult to check for sign errors in factorising quadratics.

For a Year 11 probability task, another needed extra reminders to bring the right notes and practice sheets—forgetting materials slowed revision on conditional events.

A Year 10 student tackling simultaneous equations sometimes hesitated to show steps, especially with negatives; this meant time was lost fixing hidden calculation slips rather than moving ahead.

In senior calculus, over-reliance on notes for derivatives delayed progress when formulas weren't immediately at hand.

Recent Achievements

One Ormond tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to freeze when asked to solve simultaneous equations now working through them out loud, checking each step rather than staying silent and stuck.

In a recent high school session, a Year 12 student who had been avoiding surds altogether managed to simplify several on her own and even asked for extra examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once rushed and guessed at multiplication facts slowed down during practice, carefully double-checking answers before moving on. At the end of his lesson, he finished all ten problems without errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bentleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yesodei HaTorah College - Ormond Campus. Alternatively lessons can be had at Ezy Math Tutoring Ormond, 5/596 North Rd, Ormond, 3204, VIC, 03 7073 7122
