I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence. It's not just about helping them get the right answerâ”it's about helping them believe that they can get there on their own. When a student feels supported, understood, and encouraged, they’re more willing to try, ask questions, and grow. A tutor…

I think the most important thing a tutor can be for a student is patience. Everyone works and learns on different levels and it is up to the tutor to make the learning of the subject fun and enjoyable. Explaining the concepts clearly and easily along with appropriate examples are the must for a tutor. But, more importantly, a tutor should help students cultivate good habits like hard work, discipline, confidence, time management etc. By doing so, a student not only grows academically but also personally. And this can help them in the future. I…

A tutor can develop a passion of learning in a student so that a student can learn and grow even when the teacher is with the student or not. Its similar to teach a person how to fish instead giving them fish to eat. If student learn how to learn on their own, how to solve problems, and what should be the approach to a problem then it is more than…

To build their confidence in the subject, If they feel they are not able to complete a section and lose motivation they should be shown that they absolutely can, and to not give up. Inside OrmondTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Mia worked on solving simultaneous linear equations and finding gradients from y = mx + c, using graph sketches to visualise relationships.

Year 10 student Jacob revised completing the square and factorisation by grouping, then practised graphing parabolas using both techniques.

For Year 11, Sophie tackled index and exponential equations alongside revision of logarithm laws, focusing on simplifying complex expressions step-by-step.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working was hard to follow: he often left out brackets and negatives, making it difficult to check for sign errors in factorising quadratics.

For a Year 11 probability task, another needed extra reminders to bring the right notes and practice sheets—forgetting materials slowed revision on conditional events.

A Year 10 student tackling simultaneous equations sometimes hesitated to show steps, especially with negatives; this meant time was lost fixing hidden calculation slips rather than moving ahead.

In senior calculus, over-reliance on notes for derivatives delayed progress when formulas weren't immediately at hand.

Recent Achievements

One Ormond tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to freeze when asked to solve simultaneous equations now working through them out loud, checking each step rather than staying silent and stuck.

In a recent high school session, a Year 12 student who had been avoiding surds altogether managed to simplify several on her own and even asked for extra examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once rushed and guessed at multiplication facts slowed down during practice, carefully double-checking answers before moving on. At the end of his lesson, he finished all ten problems without errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bentleigh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yesodei HaTorah College - Ormond Campus. Alternatively lessons can be had at Ezy Math Tutoring Ormond, 5/596 North Rd, Ormond, 3204, VIC, 03 7073 7122
