The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to be friendly and understanding. For the student to be able to learn effectively they need to feel comfortable and confident enough to approach the problems that they are doing. This personal treatment is something that a tutor can provide that a teacher cannot always do due to…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for their student is to increase their confidence levels. This is because a student should be confident about a subject or topic they struggled with after the tutor has helped them through it so that the student themselves are able to replicate the process and adapt to similar questions without any…

The most important thing is interactive learning sessions and developing an interest in learning. Creating that much-needed spark is important. A tutor gives direction and motivates students to do well. One-to-one interactive sessions are life-changing for students. Every human being is different. Same way, the approach to learning is different…

Besides helping the student with their academic workload, I believe that being someone the student can confide in is important for a physics tutor especially in a 1-1 setting. At the end of the day, a tutor who can listen to their student will make it easier for both parties to cooperate and make the student feel more at ease as their worries and…

Firstly, I feel like connecting with a student is a big thing in tutoring as if you understand your student, you can better suit their style of learning and allow them to understand the topic easier. Secondly, being patient with a student is essential as you cannot become frustrated they don't understand otherwise they will not learn anything at…

To be flexible in terms the needs of the student. I consider that the most important thing a student can do for a student is to never give up on the student. There are downtimes and a loss of motivation. I feel that the tutor should help the student through that phase and provide encouragement. Moreover, a physics tutor should give time and support to the student. I think my strength as a tutor…

I believe that while grades are important, they are not always completely comprehensive of a student's ability in a subject. If the student is able to walk away from a session being able to understand the concept and feel interested and confident with it, they not only will gain better results in exams but will have a better idea of the subject as…

Tutoring allows you to know your students better and know their individual needs. Inside OxenfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jack focused on solving equations for lines, finding gradients, and determining x- and y-intercepts using worked examples.

For Year 10, Olivia practised rearranging different forms of linear equations and revisited how to find specific x and y values from given graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Sam developed skills in working with integers and plotting points accurately on an axis through targeted exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, messy written layout when rearranging equations or plotting graphs often made it hard to spot calculation errors—one note said, "layout when working out" was a clear obstacle.

A Year 11 student struggled with planning responses for assessments, leaving answers underdeveloped and missing marks: "need to start writing for assessment."

For Year 9, skipping over worded questions in revision meant weaker problem-solving confidence during practice tests.

In the moment, untidy work and avoiding tougher question types led to more time spent correcting mistakes than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Oxenford tutor noticed a high school student who previously made small mistakes when solving equations is now catching those errors and finishing all calculations independently.

Another win: a Year 9 student, who used to sit quietly even when confused, started telling the tutor exactly when she didn't understand something—making it much easier to address tricky concepts right away.

In primary, one younger student who was often passive at the start of lessons recently came in organised and ready to ask questions she'd prepared herself before the session began.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Laura is doing very well with Sasha and I am very happy with the way she is teaching Sasha.

We just finished our first session with Mohamed, he is a good match for us. Matthew and I were impressed.

We are very happy with Mouhannad. More importantly Lachlan thinks he's great. We thank you and Mouhannad

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nerang Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Oxenford State School.
