I always say that the most important thing is being patient. I know that every child is different, so tutors have to adapt to each child and teach children in the appropriate way, since each student understands subjects differently. I am a young person, so I am able to understand a child in many situations. I am aware of mental health and the…

In my opinion, one of the most important things a tutor can do is to make it clear to a student that they are capable and believe in their abilities as a student. This establishes trust and goes a long way in terms of fixing problems of difficulties in any subject area. It will also build a student's confidence in themself all while knowing there…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be well aware of what he/she is teaching and must be an expert on it. Without this it's a waste of both a student's and teacher's time and money. For this I personally need to get prepared by learning teaching materials and technics at home before I start a lesson. Whatever…

I definitely think that there needs to be a solid understanding of the student and the way in which they learn so that the tutor can teach them in a way which is most effective to them. Along with this, I think that the tutor should make the student feel comfortable with them so that they feel free to ask questions or ask for further…

A tutor should be able to provide a different perspective for the students they are teaching. I feel my strengths as a tutor would be that I can easily relate to students as I only finished school a few years ago and am still studying in university, so I understand some of the struggles relating to motivation and understanding difficult…

Be interactive by continuously observing where they are at. Show don't tell. Keep challenging them by pushing the boundaries of their knowledge, but be mindful of their confidence level. As a tutor, what I believe to be important for a student is the ability to not only push but to better the student in their schooling career. My years of high school were spent with teachers who picked favourites and let me fade into the background. The most important you can do for a student is to know their abilities and work their capabilities to make them better at the subject they're trying to get better at. It is also important to understand every student is different and not all of them can grapple a concept quickly. But as a tutor, I must make sure I am accounting for each students…

The most important things a tutor can do is provide a enriching and safe learning environment for their tutee. The most important thing to being a tutor is the passion towards teaching and the motivation to get the best results from his/her students. It is also crucial for a tutor to be friendly and approachable to every student. A tutor should be available to help the student cope with any difficulties, even if this requires an extra personal approach to…

Harrison is extremely well mannered and diligent. He will often give his own time to ensure that Kate understands before he leaves. He is patient, calm and has lots of great strategies to simplify and explain maths and my daughters maths marks have improved. Thank you so much Harrison.

Inside PaddingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alex worked through final exam revision, tackling two worksheets with a focus on resolving specific questions that had caused confusion in class.

For Year 10, Olivia spent the lesson practising algebraic operations involving fractions and completing school homework problems to reinforce her understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Priya concentrated on calculus topics such as rates of change and differentiation using first principles and the power rule, applying these methods to textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student hesitated to show full working when tackling trigonometric identities—she tried to do steps mentally, but small sign errors crept in, noted the tutor.

For a Year 4 learner, forgetting to bring math books from school meant key division homework was incomplete and revision suffered.

In Year 9, one student's layout in problem-solving tasks made their reasoning hard to follow; answers were present, but skipped lines caused confusion when reviewing mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student lost track of older concepts while focusing only on new material, leading to gaps during mixed-topic tests.

Recent Achievements

One Paddington tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to quietly guess on difficult algebra questions now speaking up when stuck and asking for hints, which helped her finish the worksheet with only two errors.

A senior student who previously mixed up integration rules was able to clearly explain which formula fit each problem, working through a full set of calculus questions without needing reminders.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who hesitated to start homework independently has begun tackling spelling lists right away, even double-checking tricky words before the session ended.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brisbane Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Petrie Terrace State School.
