The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to give them the ability to take what they learn in the classroom outside of school. By teaching students the skills as well as the content, students will have the freedom to further pursue their interests. A passion for the subject material, the patience and communication skills…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is learning to adapt. Each students brain is wired completely different, and in school, there’s not always an opportunity to work one on one. So it’s crucial for a tutor to observe their students strengths and weaknesses, and use that to progress their learning. I am super patient…

The most important thing for a tutor to incorporate into their lessons is personalisation. Tailoring the lesson or what they are teaching to best aid the student in areas of weakness. This personalised content will resonate most with the student and also make the lessons more engaging. My strengths as a tutor are my speaking skills. I have…

Beth is great tutor for my son. She explains concepts in a very simple manner and enables my son to feel more confident about his work. She is great.

Inside Palm GroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Naplan worked through numeracy skills, focusing on decimal addition and multiplication as well as moving the decimal point.

For Year 8, Liv tackled index laws, including multiplying and dividing indices, powers of fractions, and the zero index law with targeted practice on fraction powers.

In Year 9, Chloe focused on formulae and equations for an upcoming test—revising speed, distance, time formulas—and clarified tricky questions from her practice set.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student struggled to retain steps in multi-part algebra problems—"he tends to forget the steps after eagerly doing them," noted one tutor. Messy working made it harder to spot where things went off track.

In Year 11, another student repeatedly confused indices and multiplication, which led to repeated errors during revision drills; over-reliance on memory rather than written checks meant mistakes lingered across sessions.

A Year 5 student left homework incomplete and had not brought necessary materials from school, making targeted revision impossible that day.

In each case, lost time and uncertainty crept into otherwise productive lessons.

Recent Achievements

A Palm Grove tutor recently noticed that Liv, a Year 10 student, moved from needing step-by-step guidance with algebraic fractions to confidently tackling them independently—she now spots patterns and applies the correct rules without prompting.

In another session, a high schooler who used to hesitate before asking for help began proactively requesting extra homework challenges, even explaining his mistakes in class with new self-assurance.

Meanwhile, Arielle in primary school quickly picked up fraction concepts; after initially needing demonstrations, she started solving problems solo and applying her learning across different types of questions.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Everything is going well with Dexter. Jordana gets on really well with her, and finds Dexter explains things very clearly, and has been a great help already with her understanding of Maths.

Jakob and Cara have a great working relationship and cover alot of content in each session. Cara's confidence and maths skills have grown considerably since commencing tutoring.

Amity is enjoying her tutouring. She is very pleased as she recently received an academic award at school meaning she had received A for all subjects for last term. So we are very happy with Xiaoya.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Tuggerah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Somersby Public School.
