A tutor needs to always be supportive. A student needs a tutor because (s)he wants help. Sometimes not getting a good result can be frustrating for them. A tutor needs to make sure that the students are motivated to improve. I'm good at understanding why the students are stuck, whether it is not knowing how to apply a formula or weak algebraic…

For me, the important thing that I can do for my students is helping them to build confidence. I guess most students tend to hire tutors not because they are not good at the subject somehow, but because they lack confidence and interest in it. Therefore, what I can do is to activate their interests and build up confidence in my way. There are…

Build interest. For younger student, most of them are still trying to find their interest in a certain field. The best thing I can do is to build interest with my humorous skill. Interest can lead students to an automatic learning mode, they will intake the related knowledge and digest them by themselves, and have the ability to do self-study,…

Other than imparting the lessons in school, I think being able to empathize with the students is key in effective teaching. As a matter of strategy, what I will do is to meet them where they are academically, then prepare a plan and implement it to be able to meet our goal(s). I have the ability to relate with young kids well. Raising three…

To listen to them and give them a chance to show their full potential. Also, to be energetic and full of enthusiasm as a child who is probably discouraged by the school a tutor who can give them the motivation they need will result in the student to succeed. - A tutor can change their way of thinking towards some subjects. For instance, during their school class, they might think the subject is boring. But if tutor, teach them in a way to make it more fun and interesting then they like and start to grasp the knowledge quickly. - So the tutor can change their perception and eventually guide them to…

The most important goal for a tutor is to spark students' interest in the subject. Tutoring is not only about assisting with a student's grade. A tutor can analyse the student's capabilities in a detailed manner which is very helpful to figure out the areas that need more focus and attention. Understand them and their learning habits. If a tutor does not understand their student, they can never excel at tutoring that student or almost anyone. Helping a student grow and evolve. Motivating a student is arguably even more important. Any assistance is meaningless if an individual doesn't have a desire to learn. Helping a student to understand what they want to learn and why is the thing I value above all as a teacher. I feel that I have a firm grasp on mathematics that would be useful to share with others. I have a desire…

I believe that developing the learning capability of the student is the best thing a tutor can do because a tutor is only going to be there for a short run however their learning ability is going to assist and stick with them forever. To encourage and make the students believe in themselves. Some students who are not doing well in Maths feel that they do not have the aptitude for the subject. We, as the tutor, have to identify the areas that they need improvement, teach and build their foundation from there. When they experience small success, their motivation for learning…

Inside PanoramaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student James focused on adding and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers as well as working with coordinates and following directions on a grid.

In Year 9, Chloe practised solving algebraic equations involving brackets and worked on confidently using negative numbers in her calculations.

For Year 10, Emily concentrated on linear graphs by finding rules for equations from diagrams and revisited key concepts of surface area to strengthen her geometry skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for SACE exams showed hesitancy when questions were worded differently than textbook examples; as a tutor noted, "more practice is required to achieve at the same level." This meant she often second-guessed which method to use and sometimes missed key information.

In Year 8, one student's revision was limited by incomplete homework and a lack of prepared cheat sheets, making it harder to recall earlier topics.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student frequently lost focus during multiplication tasks, resulting in minor errors—pausing for quick drawing breaks occasionally helped her reset and re-engage with her work.

Recent Achievements

One Panorama tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously struggled with vectors now confidently solving complex problems and even catching the tutor's small mistakes.

In another session, a Year 12 student who used to get stuck on exam revision developed his own detailed study plan and recently achieved an excellent result on a practice test.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who would rush through her maths is now taking time to check her answers, showing fewer errors and applying new strategies when faced with tricky division questions she hadn't mastered before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mitcham Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clapham Primary School.
