Patience - It is the most critical aspect to have as a tutor. Secondly, knowledge, a historian as said half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge, hence one need to have full idea about the topic. Lastly, presentation, we should be presentable enough to make the peere comfortable. Since long years of tutoring, biggest strength of my…

A tutor should take responsibility for helping students perform well academically. This is achieved through developing a strong relationship with the student ensuring the one-on-one sessions are productive. Additionally, tutors should identify students’ individual learning needs and discuss the students’ progress with their parents/guardians.…

Be able to communicate information clearly and concisely, as well as being flexible enough to come up with different explanations for topics when a certain method isn't understood. I think it's also very important that a tutor is able to present the information in an engaging way, to help build a passion for the subject. I am friendly and patient,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to and understand the students' difficulties and know the parts they need my help the most. When I was a student, my teacher was not really able to help with my needs since he had to take care of so many students at the same time. Therefore, I think as a private tutor, I…

A tutor must be an example to be followed, with his integrity, ethical values and motivation. The understanding the student's abilities, capacities and weakness are essential to creating a good level of communication and the development of a good strategy to achieve goals. The tutor skill of managing challenges in such a way that will build up the…

The most valuable thing a tutor can do is show children that learning can be easy, enjoyable, and rewarding. Tutors are positive role models to students and can be academic mentors to them which has great influence to their entire wellbeing. My greatest strength as a tutor is being able to explain content in a variety of ways. If a child doesn’t…

Inside ParacombeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Marley revised mean, median, and mode in statistics, then worked through histograms using real data sets.

In Year 9, Jay tackled algebraic expansion with the distributive law and FOIL rule before moving on to factorising by finding common factors.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Olivia focused on linear equations—drawing graphs from y-intercept and slope—and also practised solving for x and y in various contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when using a scientific calculator for equations, seemed confused about entering formulas and which operations to prioritise, leading to hesitation and errors in multi-step problems.

In Year 10 algebra lessons, one student avoided writing out working—he preferred doing everything at once on the calculator, which made it hard to spot where mistakes crept in, especially with negatives.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student grew frustrated after small errors; as noted, he didn't realise he was actually improving by making and reviewing mistakes. Confidence slipped each time a sign error reappeared during fractions practice.

Recent Achievements

One Paracombe tutor noticed a real shift with a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating when faced with unfamiliar algebra questions, began attempting new problems independently and corrected his own mistakes without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student who used to confuse percentage mark-ups and mark-offs started distinguishing between the two more reliably after targeted practice, showing clearer reasoning during finance exercises.

Meanwhile, in primary school, a younger student who struggled to show her working has now started writing her answers in clear steps each time, finishing all ten problems without skipping any part of her process.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Emily has truly benefited from tutoring and I would not hesitate to recommend your service or to come back again if we felt Emily needed further help.

l'm very happy!! Bridget has learnt so much, the tutor is such a beautitful person and an amazing teacher

We are more than happy with James. He has made a strong impression on both Jack and Sam. Both boys are keen and eager to please James. He has a lovely quiet demeanor and is constantly praising the boys and clearing explaining the steps as they are learning.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Tea Tree Gully Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Paracombe Primary and Preschool.
