Be welcoming, let them know it’s ok to struggle and feel so lost. I have been there, I have struggled with classes and overcome it, and understand how reframing concepts helps with understanding and i get the satisfaction in finally achieving marks. I also am so welcoming and approachable and empathetic for the…

A tutor is more than just one that imparts knowledge. Any textbook, podcast or Youtube Video can do that. The power of a good tutor is in his or her ability to strengthen and encourage their students, so helping them gain some momentum to keep persevering in subjects that are challenging them. This means patiently helping the students understand…

As a tutor helping students feel confident in themselves and their ability to overcome difficult tasks and assignments is crucial. Empowering students and watching them grow is the most important part of being a tutor I'm very patient and am completing my bachelor of Education where we are learning how to make the scsa curriculum exciting. I'm…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel like they are being spoken with, not spoken to. They need this so they can feel included in the discussion of learning, and not like they are being belittled for not knowing as much. I am very good at learning the best way to help someone and am able to find that way and show…

I believe that tutors are able to give a student more focus than a teacher can in a class room. There are many students who are unable to learn when teachers give generalised explanations of concepts to an entire class. I believe that a tutor is able to give differing perspectives and more focus to a singular student. I think my greatest strength…

Local Reviews

We are over the moon with the choice of tutor, Geoff Fawcett, for our son Cruz. We weren't sure at first because we had never had a Maths tutor before but he walked in with a big smile on his face and blew us away with his offbeat personality and has bonded with us really well. It has only been a few weeks but we are hoping that Cruz will continue to make progress over time. Cruz is really interested and responds well to Geoffs style of teaching.

Inside ParklandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Lexie focused on times tables strategies and identifying multiplication patterns, helping to build number confidence.

For Year 10, Cruz worked through simultaneous equations in algebra and practised applying these skills to classwork problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Scarlett concentrated on finance concepts such as interest and percentages, alongside exploring connections between mathematics and physics using real-world examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, while working on equations from worded problems, hesitated to write down full steps—he skipped showing working in algebra, which hid sign errors, noted one tutor. This made it tough to spot where mistakes crept in and slowed later revision.

In Year 8, another student repeatedly relied on quick calculator checks for indices rules rather than practicing manual recall; as a result, key patterns weren't sticking between sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 learner avoided homework on counting by tens, so fluency lagged behind class pace—confidence slipped during oral number games when answers wouldn't come quickly.

Recent Achievements

One Parklands tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously been hesitant to ask for help now openly clarifying questions about the formula sheet in probability and statistics, which let him work through tricky homework more independently.

In another high school session, a Year 9 student identified exactly where he went wrong on a recent test—something he used to struggle with—and was able to correct his mistakes on his own.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, one younger student who often lost focus became noticeably more engaged during money activities and even started participating in discussions without prompting.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Lauren had her first Tutorial with Caitlin today  and Caitlin loved her straight away with confidence built on day one. So far, so good :0)

Thank you for your email.  So far so good, Kristopher is very good and Sammi is very happy as she is now starting to understand maths. My husband and I are very pleased. :)

Cassidy has had one session with Scott. Cassidy came home very positive, saying that Scott was great at explaining concepts and that he will benefit from his tutoring support. Cassidy related well with Scott and seemed very impressed by his level of knowledge and by his academic progress at university. In effect, Scott is a great role model for Cassidy. I hope this all continues well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lakelands Library and Community Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Meadow Springs Primary School.
