The most important thing any sort of teacher or mentor can do for not just students, but anyone, is to make sure the students believe in themselves and their abilities, for that will take them beyond any test or assignment. What is also important is to make sure the students have fun while learning, for that will ensure that whatever they are…

Clear concepts. Once your concepts are clear you can do any kind of question, sometimes even harder questions. Every concept especially in economics and maths have diagrams, I love working with diagrams and I think those are the best things tutors can do for a student. I think I give good real life examples and good diagrams to make concepts…

I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to give them the enjoyment from studying. A good tutor will be able to make the student feel that, studying is similar to any other activities, and that they can enjoy it while gaining new knowledge without a hassle. With enjoyment from studying, these students will gain…

A tutor should inspire curiosity, instill confidence, and equip students with the tools they need to become independent learners. Moreover, fostering a positive and supportive relationship built on trust and mutual respect is…

I believe that each student should be heard in the classroom and encouraged to contribute to discussions. It is important for them to engage in active learning rather than just listening to a teacher speak passively. A quality, which I believe tutors should give their students is confidence. The key to mastering any formula or topic is being confident enough to put oneself forward and try it. After all, we cannot find out their strengths or weaknesses without giving a question a shot. A tutor can improve their student’s confidence through repeated practice,…

Being a tutor is about being genuine and sincere in teaching, and to realize that we play a major role in being a witness to the students' growth. Our job is to give a pathway for students to be engaged in the subject, give a reason to why they should learn it, and for them to accomplish great things in the future. Teach not only concepts but how…

Providing individualized attention and support is the cornerstone of effective tutoring. Each student is unique, with their own distinct learning style, strengths, and weaknesses. A one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring is unlikely to be successful, as it fails to cater to the individual needs of each learner. Recognizing this, exceptional tutors…

The primary reason why a student may hire a tutor is to give them the in-depth understanding of "Why" the concept is the way it hence. Hence, explaining them the core concept, which enables them to solve the problems during their exams and assignments without having any second doubts. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure they understand the topics that they are most likely to need and then delve into some tangents based on interest. A tutor should try to think like a student tutor should try to get into the child’s mind, mostly a tutor should try to bend according to the child’s need because if a tutor is just like a machine then they won’t be able to critically analyse where the child is unable to grasp the knowledge so it’s very very important that a tutor should…

Local Reviews

Ben is very diligent and commited. He tutored both my daughter's who showed marked improvement. He prepared for sessions and always kept us informed of the girls progress. He is a thoughtful and considerate guy and the girls responded well to his demeanour. I would highly recommend Ben to anyone that wants a tutor to elevate their child's academic performance.

Inside ParkvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Seamus focused on trigonometry, specifically applying sine and cosine rules to solve triangle problems, and also reviewed algebraic simplification using index laws.

For Year 11, Mia completed revision of matrices—including operations like multiplication and finding inverses—and worked through weighted graphs with Dijkstra's algorithm from the networks chapter, practising questions for her upcoming SACs.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Priya tackled exam-style questions on data analysis, including linear regression and standard deviation, while also strengthening her understanding of financial mathematics by practising compound interest problems.

Recent Challenges

During recent sessions, several process-related habits have stood out across both junior and senior levels.

In Year 11 maths, a student did not complete assigned homework or school holiday tasks; as the tutor observed, "she forgot most of the contents from chapter 7," making new work harder to grasp.

For a Year 12 student preparing for VCE, inconsistent note-taking and a lack of organisation in her bound reference book meant she struggled to quickly locate formulas during timed practice exams.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student's written work in algebra was messy—her steps were unclear, leading to confusion when checking answers.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Parkville noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through maths sums is now taking time to spot and correct mistakes, leading to more accurate answers.

In English, a Year 10 student has begun incorporating specific evidence into essays after previously struggling to support arguments, and can now clearly structure paragraphs using the PEEL method.

From a younger group, one Year 5 student has started regularly asking questions when unsure instead of staying silent—something she rarely did before—and finished her multiplication practice independently by the end of the session.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Yes l am happy and Sofia seems happy with Simone which is great.   Simone is giving her homework to do and yes Sofia is doing it without any pushing from me :)

Stephen has found Adam really good with his tutoring and he feels he is getting good value from he time spent with him.  He explains things well in a way that Stephen can understand.  This is working well for us. Thanks

Steven is enjoying his tutoring and is very comfortable with Robert.  It's still early to tell, but Steven's confidence in Maths has definitely been lifted! Thank you

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kathleen Syme Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like University High School.
