Actually listening to what they have to say about their own studies. What do they find hard and what is easier. If they find more creative subjects easy and fun use that as a way of making the harder subjects more fun and easier. Understanding that everyone has a different way of learning and you just have to find the perfect way to learn. Having…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be patient and understanding that some concepts may be difficult to conceive and may take longer for certain students. I think it's also important to reward students when they are doing well in order to encourage them to continue to grow. A key strength of mine as a tutor is my…

I can provide a safe space for students to learn and not be afraid to ask questions. To not just present answers to a problem, but direct the student to reaching that solution and ensure that they are able to understand the necessary steps. To be able to transfer the knowledge I acquired throughout my own education to assist others that may be…

The most important job for a tutor is to make learning fun and low-stress. Often, a student will end up dreading having to do any work on a subject they struggle in, which makes learning new information much more of a challenge. By making learning fun, the student will have an easier time learning. I try to find the most effective way to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is, instead of working through curriculum blindly and wasting time, teaching content that is personalised and caters to the student to improve their weaknesses and boost them academically. The most important thing a tutor can do is guide a student to develop their own confidence and self motivation to learn. While it is easy to put pressure on a student to improve their grades, I believe that the learning experience is the key to achieving success in the long term, both within school and outside of it. I have familiar with different…

I think a teacher can really help build a platform for students where they feel empowered through education. A tutor has to ensure the students are at par in school with other students and able to connect with the teachers at school. I have a strong background and clear foundation in maths , science, english and geography. I am fluent in English…

Inside ParkwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student David worked on understanding probability concepts, interpreting measures of spread, and reading two-way tables and Venn diagrams.

For Year 10, Lucy revised algebraic skills including solving linear equations and drawing linear graphs to strengthen her grasp of core algebra topics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Molly focused on Mathematics Methods by practicing differentiation techniques and exploring their real-world applications using sample problems.

Recent Challenges

Ongoing challenges with homework completion, especially in maths, were evident across several students in both Year 6 and senior secondary levels—"needs to do the home works" recurred in multiple sessions, even after lessons on fractions and multiplication charts.

In a Year 11 Mathematics Methods session, incomplete review of past test papers meant some error patterns persisted into new topics.

One Year 7 student avoided writing out working for surface area problems, making it difficult to spot where confusion began.

"Forgot to convert units" was a stumbling block in geometry tasks; time was lost re-explaining basic conversions rather than deepening problem-solving skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Parkwood noticed a Year 11 student who previously needed step-by-step guidance with Chemistry was able to tackle sample assessment problems on intermolecular forces almost entirely on his own this week.

Another high schooler made a leap in Maths by independently recognising the connection between algebraic and graphical solutions—a skill he'd struggled to link before.

For a younger student, after weeks of guessing silent letters in spelling tasks, she's now pausing to check each word carefully and correct herself before moving on. Last session, she completed her worksheet without needing any reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Riverton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Parkwood Primary School.
