I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to be patient, supportive, and encouraging. A tutor should help the student understand the material, build confidence, and develop good study habits so they can learn on their own too. I think my strength as a tutor lies in being empathetic and focused on each student’s unique…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is recognise their efforts and reassure them; encouraging them rather than scolding mistakes. I can recognise when students are unsure of topics or are too shy to ask for help. In recognising this, I revisit the topic till I'm sure they're certain how to approach the problem from all…

Support my students and give them the skills to excel in their education while also fulfilling their goals. This can mean different things for different students, so depending on the goals and needs of the students we can together curate a study plan for success. I believe forming a connection with the student and building a positive relationship with them that way they have a more positive look on being tutored. Most students dont enjoy the aspect of tutoring because it can be a chore for them, but by building a relationship during these sessions, you can make them look forward to being tutored more.…

For me, the two things that aided me most when I was being tutored in highschool were practice questions given to me by tutors and when these tutors took their time to really deconstruct these concepts until I fully understood them. My biggest strength is patience. Sometimes it takes students a long time to begin to understand certain concepts and…

The most important thing I can do is instil confidence and belief into a student. My method of process-driven teaching allows students to gain confidence to tackle any academic goal, which arises from the hard work they put into the plan we develop together. Hard work combined with a clear direction and plan has led to amazing results for many of…

In my opinion, tutor must be patient and understanding towards a student. This allows the student to feel more comfortable with the tutor, which allows them to easily tell the tutor any troubles that they're having with their studies. A tutor should also have empathy and be a good listener for the student. Moreover, the tutor should also be…

The most important is to listen to them. What tutors may want from the student could be different from what the student wants. Helping each student be the best learner that they can be; independent learning is something that all successful students must be able to do. My philosophy is that if you want something, you can achieve it, as long as you dedicate the time and effort into it, and I will make sure that my students have this same mindset. I aim to make studying and…

The prevailing inherited difference in them is a mean to stimulus the school going students and that can be done by the tutor. Second, Can Motivate on every walk to the student…

Being a tutor requires a great responsibility. The first and foremost thing a tutor can do is to be a friend with the student and develop a rapport. We have to understand them first then only we can approach accordingly through our teaching. It's like being a therapist and getting to know them better. If we succeed then we can easily transfer and…

Inside ParkwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student David worked on understanding probability concepts, interpreting measures of spread, and reading two-way tables and Venn diagrams.

For Year 10, Lucy revised algebraic skills including solving linear equations and drawing linear graphs to strengthen her grasp of core algebra topics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Molly focused on Mathematics Methods by practicing differentiation techniques and exploring their real-world applications using sample problems.

Recent Challenges

Ongoing challenges with homework completion, especially in maths, were evident across several students in both Year 6 and senior secondary levels—"needs to do the home works" recurred in multiple sessions, even after lessons on fractions and multiplication charts.

In a Year 11 Mathematics Methods session, incomplete review of past test papers meant some error patterns persisted into new topics.

One Year 7 student avoided writing out working for surface area problems, making it difficult to spot where confusion began.

"Forgot to convert units" was a stumbling block in geometry tasks; time was lost re-explaining basic conversions rather than deepening problem-solving skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Parkwood noticed a Year 11 student who previously needed step-by-step guidance with Chemistry was able to tackle sample assessment problems on intermolecular forces almost entirely on his own this week.

Another high schooler made a leap in Maths by independently recognising the connection between algebraic and graphical solutions—a skill he'd struggled to link before.

For a younger student, after weeks of guessing silent letters in spelling tasks, she's now pausing to check each word carefully and correct herself before moving on. Last session, she completed her worksheet without needing any reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Riverton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Parkwood Primary School.
