I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand the student and his/her needs. Based on this understanding, the tutor can provide personalised support, build the student's confidence and motivate them to study better. A tutor can also inspire the students, to get the student to develope a love for learning and for…

I concur with Ezy Math Tutoring's philosophy: a tutor’s most important job is to listen and observe how students work and learn, and then provide them with strategies to work and learn more effectively. The tutor must also establish a supportive, mentoring relationship with their student, so that students feel comfortable with discussing what…

Support and believe within the student that they can do it. They are only limited with what they think they think they can achieve, if a student sees their tutor believe they can do it than definitely they will drive their own development. Ironing out a student's weak areas is important as I believe it is important to make students confident in their work. Furthermore, explaining things in a way that makes students understand concepts better such as using analogies is important as the way things are typically taught might be one of the reasons it is difficult to understand concepts.…

Having faced challenges in Science during my high school, I am aware of the problems students face in understanding complex mathematical concepts. The most important thing for a tutor to do is not answer the students homework for them but to lead them to the answer, whether it would be going back to help them understand the concept, method or what the question is asking. Guiding the student towards developing better study habits and organisational skills is also important as these would in…

Believe in them. Self confidence is a important factor especially in children. If they are able to see that the tutor believes in their abilities then it teaches them to believe in themselves. Other than the obvious reasons of being able to just regurgitate the content taught in schools in my opinion the most important things a tutor could do for a student is be compassionate for them and empathetic as tutoring is not like school as since they may go tutoring e.g. 1 time per week they need to learn more content than of which they do at…

Inside Pleasure PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Mia worked through homework tasks involving perimeter and length, as well as addition, multiplication, and division to check her maths level.

In Year 7, Emily focused on solving algebraic equations for x and practiced multiplying monomials and binomials in preparation for upcoming topics.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lucas tackled linear relationships by graphing straight lines from equations and explored coordinate geometry using example problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student often hesitated during multi-step algebra and geometry problems, pausing for reassurance before writing answers—"she kept asking if what she was writing made sense," a tutor noted. This pattern led to incomplete working and sometimes missing final answers in tests, especially under time pressure.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's bookwork became difficult to follow when fractions with unlike denominators appeared; inconsistent layout hid errors until they were pointed out.

In both cases, anxiety about correctness slowed progress and left key steps unpracticed, causing confusion during more complex or unfamiliar exam tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Pleasure Point tutor recently noticed a big change in a Year 10 student, Leila: she's started catching her own mistakes and back-checking answers before the tutor steps in, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

During practice exams, she now explains where she went wrong and corrects herself without prompting.

Another high school session saw Leila confidently ask for tougher graphing questions after finishing the standard set—a first for her, as she used to hesitate with new topics.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously struggled with fractions completed an entire worksheet on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Panania Public School.
