Involvement of the student . If an economics tutor or a teacher is not able to make his/her student involved and self motivated to study then the whole effort as well as time of both teacher and student go waiste. I try to put my efforts as a mentor wholeheartedly to make my students clear about the concepts and put more emphasis on quality not…

In my view, the most important role of an economics tutor is to empower students to reach their full potential. This involves not only helping them understand academic material but also fostering critical thinking skills, confidence, and a love for learning. A tutor should create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel…

I think asking questions is key to understand how much content the student has grasped. Moreover, it is also important to be a good role model for the kids and gain their respect. Communication is one my strenghts as a tutor. Also I feel that I am extremely approachable which will be a handy trait for a tutor. Moreover, I am also very positive…

It is never easy with studying - and different students will have their own speed of absorbing the lesson they are trying to learn. Several factors may come into play in those challenges whether it's their cognition ability, skills of their instructor, or the status of the environment where they are trying to learn. I belive an economics tutor…

I believe that the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to develop a friendly bond with the student. This is the most important thing a tutor must establish. Without this bond, I find that students are less receptive to the tutor's assistance and overall, less motivated to attend tutoring. However, with this bond,…

The most important things an economics tutor can do for a student are believing in them and trusting them with their learning. By doing that, a tutor will be able to engage a student and help them excel in their learning. In addition, a tutor needs to know a student's particular learning needs and know how to address them. A tutor should address…

To understand the needs and goals of a student and be able to help them achieve this. During this process it's important that an economics tutor create a safe environment which incentivises students to ask questions and further their learning. 1) Clarity and grasp when communicating which allows me to break complex concepts to digestable bite…

Something is often overlooked in tutoring/teaching is ensuring that students are properly following an explanation. Therefore, patience and care is important to keep checking in along the away and motivate them in learning and exploring the subjects. Through 13 years of schooling, I am aware that every student has a different approach to study for…

One of the most important things a teacher can do for their student is to listen. Not to listen to think of the next response but to listen to understand. I believe as a teacher listening specifically to WHAT the student is asking not HOW they are asking it is one of the most valuable and important skills I've learned to develop. When a student is…

Inside PlumptonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Zoe focused on foundational algebra skills, including basic equations and substitution, using worksheets for practice.

In Year 10, Lily worked through matrices as part of her early start in Data, alongside reviewing key topics for General Mathematics.

For Year 12, Chatwell's session included an overview of Business Management and English materials while also clarifying specific questions from the General Maths curriculum to set goals for the year ahead.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on algebraic techniques often skipped showing full steps, leading to repeated sign errors—"she'd often confuse (x, y) for (y, x)," noted her tutor.

In VCE English, one student struggled with essay writing under timed conditions; her reluctance to complete practice essays meant real exam pacing remained untested.

For a Year 6 maths topic, hesitation in answering multiplication and division questions slowed progress even when she knew the basics.

Homework was occasionally incomplete in both primary and senior levels—one missed exercise left a gap that resurfaced during review sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Plumpton noticed a Year 12 student who, after previously struggling to organise her thoughts, began pinpointing her weaknesses in paragraph structure and clearly asked for targeted help.

In Year 10 maths, one student had been hesitant with algebra but recently tackled worded questions independently on the Cartesian plane and managed points placement with only light prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once needed frequent guidance with fractions now answers problems without hesitation—last session she solved all equations placed in front of her unaided.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caroline Springs Library & Learning Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yarrabing Secondary College.
