since the goal of a tutor is to teach the student I believe that the most important things tutors can do for students Is teach the underlying concept as well as the method to solving a problem, this allows the student to apply what they have learnt in different circumstances if the same underlying concept is used. I have excellent problem solving…

I believe that a tutor should make the subject easy for the students to understand as each students learn in different ways. If a tutor is able to identify them and be able to make the student understand the subject then it is the best thing a tutor can do to help a student thrive. I think my strengths as a tutor would be that I believe that any…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach the student to enjoy learning, and impart a good studying method. After all, even the best tutor cannot help an unmotivated student, and a lack of self-motivation is the biggest obstacle that many underperforming students fail to overcome. I am good at following the student's pace.…

Firstly, a tutor can give guiding questions instead of displaying the answers straightaway. This way, the students can be prompted to think of a way to get to the solution. Secondly, I believe a tutor should build the foundation first before going deeper into the subject. I am a patient person. I would give time for the students to digest the…

The most important thing that any tutor can do for a student is to be a good listener. Knowing a student's expectations is really important in planning effective tutoring techniques. For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help students stop fearing what they don’t know. Once that fear is gone, they can focus on real learning instead of just chasing marks. Inside Plympton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Finn practised adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers and worked through word problems involving these operations.

In Year 9, James revised circular motion in Physics—clarifying centripetal force—and reviewed key statistics concepts such as mean, median, and mode using his school test materials.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Una focused on preparing for upcoming assessments by tackling break-even analysis and capital gains calculations in Maths, while also reviewing atomic theory basics in Chemistry.

Recent Challenges

During a Year 8 session, Mavis left her math booklet at home, which meant time was lost re-explaining previously covered concepts.

In Year 11 Chemistry, another struggled to recall technical terms—she could explain ideas but couldn't name them, as in "the reproduce at different times one" instead of 'temporal isolation'.

A senior student avoided answering questions when unsure; this habit led to gaps during practice tests.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student focused only on easy times tables and avoided harder multiplication facts, which slowed progress in mixed-operation problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Plympton Park noticed a real shift for Mavis, who used to hesitate with reading aloud but recently volunteered to read the comprehension text herself and tackled tricky words without prompting—she even asked about unfamiliar terms instead of skipping them.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Una has started catching her own calculation mistakes and correcting them on the spot, which is a big change from needing step-by-step guidance before.

Another high school session saw Chloe independently solving several algebra problems after previously relying on hints for each step; she finished by working through two questions entirely on her own.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Jessica has been great, she has helped Ben quite a bit already and identified problems and strengths.  She is punctual and diligent.

My son, is doing quite well at the moment (year 9). His tutor was fantastic and got him up to a level where he finally 'got it'Âť.

Liam is now achieving an A for Maths - (previously getting a D!!!) Calvin is a delightful member of your team and he related really well with Liam.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marion Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forbes Primary School.
